    Help with brand choice

I ride an old trek. Ready to buy new bike. I mostly ride forest roads up at camp. Might enter a race up there in the fall. I ride for exercise and relaxation. I've been searching online about brands. $1000 is my limit. Some of the bikes I was researching are specialized rockhopper comp and sports 29, connondale catalyst 1, trail, and giant fathom 29 2. Can anyone give me info on the component comparison between these brands and bikes.

I know it's all about fit and feel and I will test ride each bike.

You can look up the components on each of those bikes. If you don't know where the components fall in relation to each other, a simple search brought this up:

Mountain bike groupsets: everything you need to know - BikeRadar USA

I'd say those three brands are pretty much equal. At around the same price, the components are probably about equal. Check fork quality.
This post is a natural product. Variances in spelling & grammar should be appreciated as part of its character & beauty.

Another option always worth considering is used. Esp since it sounds like you would be looking at a 29 HT. You could probably find a pretty nice bike with a good component group that's 1-2 years old and stay within your budget.
