Dirty dozen 29er single speed gearing

Anyone have recommendations about single speed 29er MTB gearing for tackling the Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen?

I met a guy at a the Patapsco 100 last year who I think said 39x22 was feasible for a stout gear masher sort of SS rider...

I decided to ride geared since it was my 1st time riding here- it was a total blast and I highly recommend doing the ride. Made it up all of the hill climbs with a rigid 29er running 3.0" front and 2.4 rear tires; 3x9 (44-32-22 and 12-36t cassette).

Canton Ave. (photo) was crazy with a small crowd cheering us on. The next climb (Bousted St. in Beechview) was quite a bit longer and just about as steep.

There were a number of MTB riders (some big fatty folks too!). I didn't see any SS riders. I'd choose something along the lines of 39x24 or possibly 22... some of the through town riding between hills and bridge crossings would be quite spinny though.
