For those that haven't gotten the story. Myself and Dave Hallock went on a 3-day BOB camping trip in eastern Oregon's Elkhorn range which is just west of Baker City. The 17 mile loop we chose was the "easy" route with over 4000 feet of climbing on the first day! No big deal unless you're hauling your stuff with you like we were. We reached a high point of 8200 feet. The middle day we did a short day ride exploring a little deeper into the Elkhorns, that gave way to some fishing and watching mountain goats scamper up the rocks surrounding camp. The last day we hung out at the lake, went swimming and watched the goats some more. Just as we were preparing to pack up the BOB's and head down a group of six mountain goats came into camp. The ride out was a blast of course and the cold PBRs at the car hit the spot.

Wow Sparty and SeenYour, looks like it was a blast of a trip. I've only been to that area once since living in Oregon and I've always wanted to go back.

I got to go check out some sites this past weekend where I am.

    Looks like a great trip.

Thanks for sharing, I'll be at Windy lakes, possibly on 2 wheels, possibly on 2 feet.

I always heard that hunting goats was really tough. They are reputed to be elusive and hang out on inaccessible cliffs and such.....doesn't look like those goats read the manual. Or maybe, they have a calendar and it's not hunting season for them yet!

It does look like a great trip.

Wow, looks great. I've always thought that corner of the state must have some great riding, this confirms it.

Somewhat reminiscent of the riding in the north cascades near Winthrop WA, except this looks much less used.

Awesome Dudes. Thanks for the look within your trip. Those goats are cool!

I just picked up a BOB on flebay for a good price. These photos stoke me on doing a trip, thanks. What mods did you do to your trailers, might I ask? I'm always interested in mods.

    Cheers,
    BFE

Wow. Stupendous. I didn't know there was that much bike-legal trail in the Elkhorns. Ain't nowhere flat in there, that's for sure -- looks like more work than what we did in June with the BOBs. Hey, looks like you used my bottle cage idea.

The 3 mods I've done to my BOB are (1) added a kickstand to the tongue (2) used hose clamps to attach bottle cages on either side of the wheel -- this is Glowboy's bottle cage idea, SeenYourCrash also uses it, and (3) I employ a Kratsch Sack rather than the factory BOB Yak Sak. The Kratsch Sack is far superior, IMO.

This is 7.5 - 8 hours from Salem.

Amazing photos! Do you have a link to a map or descriptions of the trails in the Elkhorn Mtns?
