    Project SS - Orbea Alma

So after watching two of the guys on my MTB team transition over to the SS world and seeing the fitness they've gained and how much fun they are having, I decided to join the SS crowd. I'm currently building up my 2011 Orbea Alma and am waiting on a few final parts to finish the deal. Don't mind the flat pedals on there, I let a friend borrow the bike to try out mtn biking while it was still geared. I'll be throwing my Egg Beaters back on.

    34t RaceFace alternating chain ring
    18t Niner rear cog
    Misfit Psycles tensioner
    Gear Clamps

I'm hoping to have everything in and installed so I can ride it this weekend since my Epic needs to be torn down so I can replace all the bushings and bolts.

I had my medium Alma set up SS and could run a 32/18 or 34/16 without a tensioner, 50 teeth was the magic number. It made for a nice light SS!

If that frame is BB30, you could also get a Beer Components EBB for it.
Thanks to www.weavercycleworks.com for my awesome bike frames!

Thanks for the info santacruzer. I just took the advice of several guys I know running single speed and their recommendation was a 34/18 for the trails around here. After I build up some more leg strength I might give the 16t cog a try.

Manicmtbr, yes it is a BB30.

Thanks. After a short test ride the chain skipped once or twice under power so I removed another two links and voila, no more skipping and it looks better.

If I enjoy this single speeding then I'm going to upgrade to the BEER components EBB and just be done with the tensioner.

Sucks. Hope you get it back. I chain up my good bikes and leave the crappier ones unlocked in hopes that the thieves are lazy.

Can you believe it...? One month to the day the bike was stolen, my buddy found it on Craigslist posted up by a pawn shop about 3 miles from where it was stolen.

We worked with the cops (who had already put together a police report) to get in touch with the pawn shop. Once there, the cops verified the bike was mine (via the serial number on the bb shell) and put an evidence hold on the bike. Over the next two days the cops viewed my buddy's video footage of the theft and then interviewed the pawn shop who ID'd the guy who pawned it. Turns out he was a regular at the pawn shop and has a few priors.

Since the guy took it out of my buddy's garage while he and his wife were home, the charges were more severe so they went out and arrested him! A day later I got my bike back and have been riding the snot out of it since then.

I'm happy because (1) I got my bike back in the same condition it was stole and (2) the thief got caught and arrested and faces 2-5 years in jail.

The pawn shop technically should have checked the stolen bike registry when the guy tried to pawn it but fortunately it all worked out in the long run.

Glad you got the bike back. Hopefully the thief will have a cell mate who likes to ride.

Looks nice. Not a fan of the tensioners but I had a bad experience with mine. Other than that I love it!

That is awesome, CBR. I gotta say, though, I have my skepticism on the alleged "innocence" of the pawn shop. They "forgot" to check the bike registry. Right.

I guess the important thing is, you got your bike back. Hope the dude learned his lesson.

Thanks. The tensioner is a thing of the past. Check out the more recent photos, I'm running a BEER Components EBB.

Thanks guys. It was certainly a shady pawn shop, but they filled their end of the deal by accurately identifying the thief and working with the police throughout the process. I still believe they willingly and knowingly took in a stolen bike, but at least they cooperated with the popo.
