    2019 Orbea Laufey 27+ H30 Bike

    Hello all,

I'm looking into an 2019 Orbea Laufey 27+ H30... now, there seems to be a lot of vauge info on the standover on this bike... Some say 780+ (27+/29), some sites indicate nothing (no info) and like one or two indicate closer to 680/700mm and these numbers are represented on their small frame (For my wife).

The Niner Air 9 29er she didn't like the feel in terms of the height being that she was tippy toeing trying to mount the bike which is 729mm/28.70". So, if it were between 680~700 insta purchase.

Wow, no love for the Laufey...

Ultimately, the 2019 models are all discontinued... I managed to snag a 2018 Loki 27+ H10, last of it's kind, sadly. I wasn't feeling the 2020 color schemes even though they are priced better than the older models.

I didn't like the Shimano Drivetrain, kept clanking all about when you switch... and since this is for my wife I can't have that happening.. Swapping it out to a GX Eagle as we speak and eventually XX1 for some bling (and of course quality/performance)

I'll gladly show the love and speak to myself too... (not entirely crazy)...

So, did some work, figured I keep it simple but still upgrade the trickster God. I went ahead with the GX Eagle setup... if in the event any further upgrades is/are needed will be depending on what she will want/need. For right now, it was swapping out the Shimano drivetrain and brakes to Sram GX Eagle and Code RSC + 180mm F/R Sram discs. 760mm CF handle bars Ergon GA3 grips and two different wheelsets...

Looking at the 2020 Laufey H10 as a new hardtail. Not much out regarding the 2020 ride reviews. Almost bought a used 2019, but give I ride trail and rocky downhills prefer the slacker headtube angle on this years bike.

How do you like yours? I have my new/used hardtail choice down to a couple of bikes: specialized fuse comp 29, and /or a laufey.

Well, it's not my personal bike. I ride an Ibis DV9, I tried them both out (not in the same situations) but I can't really compare. I've only been out on the trails with my DV9 and only rode around on the Loki on asphalt and small grassy trails.

From the limited testing, it feels playful and agile for its weight compared to the DV9. Yet, when my wife decides to take on harder terrain I'm sure it will be able to handle it.

So, I finally was able to slap on the trail tires on my wife's bike and took both her Loki/Laufey and my DV9 and surprisingly enough I favored her bike better than mine. As far as reach both bikes felt comfortable while riding but when you start doing the twist and turns the Loki/Laufey felt more at home, and very playful. Granted these are two totally different bikes. Both 12 speed sram eagles (one is a GX and the other is an XX1) alum vs CF, 29er vs 27.5... same brakes different geo... I believe the DV9 is a more traditional geo setup. The weight difference is roughly 3 to 4 lbs, Loki/Laufey being the heavier of the two.

If it wasn't for the chain slipping a bit due to the derailleur being a bit bent (probably she dropped it on that side) I would of felt more confident climbing. All-in-all, I really like the Loki/Laufey which was in my selections of bikes I was looking into before I got the DV9.

Luckily, the sizing on the 2018 Loki/Laufey as a medium favored a large range of heights (5'3" ~ 5'9") so both myself and my wife can ride it... yet, she has abandoned the idea of riding bikes in general (like her daughter) which I am now selling the Niner Air 9 Aluminum and figured I'd keep the Loki and continue modding it to my specifications. My DV9 is pretty much a weapon so, I'm looking at the Loki now.

Last night I ordered some parts which I'll be going XX1 drivetrain to lighten it up some, some aesthetics here and there considering the color scheme that the bike has a new wheelset support the XD Drive (the 2 sets I have one that came stock with the bike had a Shimano spline and I made the mistake of the other set keeping it the same, I wasn't originally thinking to go GX+ on the bike so I kept the NX cassette on there).

I went with E*Thirteen TRS Boost stayed 27.5 35mm internal width ordered a new set of tires and keeping the minions I have now as backup. Went with Minion DHF 2.6 up front and DHR II WT 2.4 at the rear. Ordered the XX1 Oil slick chain (backordered) XG-1299 cassette, black/grey shifter, crankset and derailleur.

It's already a playful bike just wanted to make it meaner This will be my do everything bike to grow more as the DV9 will be for more smooth singletrack stuff... I loved how the Loki maneuvered around things and how well it responded to the twist and turns.

I know that nobody cares about the Loki/Laufey in Orbea's line-up but it's one amazing HT that is overlooked. I believe mine might be the only one with an XX1 Eagle drivetrain and 4 piston Code brakes. I absolutely love it! Proud owner of 2 XX1 bikes!

The 2020 laufey has very promising geo. Be interesting to see what some of the ride reports have to say. Good looking bikes you have there.
