WINDOWS 9 (oops, I mean 10) is coming...

Free "one click" upgrade to all W8 users after it's release.

    That is all.

^^Yeah, more this. Vista was a disaster. We're on Windows 7 Pro now, to be fair it's ok but I still hate Windows.

I'm still using Windows 7. I refuse to upgrade to 8 even though I have a copy I got as a gift. Metro UI is garbage. I hear 9 will have live tiles as well. Lame.

I find it astonishing that a company like Microsoft, who've been in the game quite a while now, can still release products with obvious, idiotic flaws. My son had to go over and explain to my father-in-law how to switch off his new Windows8 laptop. Despite using Windows for decades he couldn't figure it out.

still running vista and will be for as long as I can.

iOS8, I hear Apple named it that because it "isn't Overly Sens8tional" So should I update my ipad or not?

At work we are mostly all in Windows 7, but a couple people are in 8. One thing we found that helps de-suck windows 8 is a little utility called startisback. I think it costs around $3, and it makes the interface to 8 operate a little more like 7, which is a step forward by moving a step back, IMO.

Without this and a touch screen it's pretty awful. Those two things make it much more user friendly.

Windows 8 still doesn't bother me one bit, but I've seen a lot of changes since CP/M was the hot thing on the street so maybe I adapt easier than you young whippersnappers.

The point is, W7 worked fine and it's what everyone was getting used to. MS has a history of drastically changing their OSs everytime they introduce a new one. That just puts the users up in arms. What MS should have been doing all along is simply improving each OS prior yet having the new est version function the same way.

Hopefully MS has fianlly learned it's lesson once and for all.

I think Microsoft should have made Windows 8 look and feel just like 7 with vast improvements under the hood and less of a resource hog. Maybe a few new themes built in for Areo as well. I bet you that 9 will have those stupid live tiles.

    Of course it will.

Microsoft now also sell computers / tablets and having recently acquired Nokia will also soon be selling phones. These gadgets are all touch screen and all are loosely based around the Windows 8 platform. They want us to buy their products, not just their software so it makes sense that their software will be targeted to working best on their products. Touch screen live tiles.

I just hate change for change sake. If something is working then why change it, improve it yes with small tweaks but huge changes, no thanks.

Good point. But change must flow, must be gradual. What MS did from XP to Vista was drastic and from 7 to 8 was also drastic but to a lesser degree. MS claimed that 8 would function similarly 7. That is flat out lie.

IMO, 7 was like an improved XP. I hope 9 is an improved 7.

I hated windows 8 so bad, I installed classic shell that reverts the desktop to look like any older style of windows you want. No complaints so far.

That's what I did from the start and I also dumped all the damned tiles. What are they trying to do, be like an iphone or something? This is MS, not Apple.

Two weeks ago I finally switched from Windows '98 to Windows 8.1.

Overall it's a disappointment. Some parts seem disorganized. I think it's not as user friendly as it could be. I can't change it, so I'm trying to get used to it without complaining too much.

If a day comes when Mac becomes as big as MS (and it's well on it's way to it) same troubles will haunt it as do MS now.

Beautiful, I've fought off the 8.1 upgrade since it first started popping up prompting me to do it. Mostly because I have a fundamental problem with being told what to do when it comes to MY computer.

This morning it went ahead without me and the next time I reboot it will upgrade. I feel like I need to go buy a USB drive to back everything up first. Anyone else had this forced on them, and if so were there any problems?
