What are you getting taxed for?

OK, let's break this down as much as we can. I cannot think of a single thing in my life that is not somehow connected to being taxed.

    How about you?

Although I will say my boss at work and a particular co worker heavily tax me every day.

Despite these examples I'm a cheery guy - honest.

I take St. Johns Wort every day to keep my cheer up, otherwise taxes would kill me.

...and you know what, I paid sales tax for that bottle of tax stress reliever!

Even our planes are taxing down the runway. Nothing is safe from this government onslaught.

So does it work? I might gobble a few handfuls and see what happens. I'll gladly pay 10% tax for that stuff if its effective.

Believe it or not, yes it does work (for me, at least). I've been ill for almost a month now. It was suggested to me by a friend in the medical field to start taking it to help me deal with my ailment while I heal and I think I can say that it actually has helped. You have to take it 3 times a day, though.

    I get a reverse tax.
I launder my income through an anonymous off-shore account.
Everything else gets claimed as a business & investment expense.
Running a hookers & blow enterprise is hard work.

Then you must live in a 4th world country where you fetch your own water, grow your own crops, and build your own mud huts. Clothing optional.

It's my understanding that the "rubbing tax holiday" is about to expire. You might want to move to the Cayman Islands next year.

The worst here is personal property tax.

Any vehicle under 25 years old is taxed annually based on blue book value. Any RV, car trailer, etc, likewise. They even include a tax on pets. You can't get tags without a current paid tax receipt.

On vehicles they charge at least 5% on the purchase price of any vehicle too.

So, for me at least that means the state loses sales tax and the dealers lose sales they could've made to me. My truck is 12 years old, I would've bought at least 2 trucks by now if not for the tax but instead I'm riding that old junker until I die. I would have also bought at least one Challenger by now, and would be trying to buy a Hellcat Charger right now if it wasn't for having to pay tax on it every year ...

They also nail us for real estate taxes. I've got two houses, side by side. Bought the second one to stop development of an apartment complex on the lot. The taxes on the second house is 3x that of the first one because since I don't live in it they consider it an income property. My daughter lives in it so yeah, income, right. At least I get to write off the repair expenses against it.

How are these taxes in neighboring states? If they are less or non-existent, register your vehicle at a friends house in that state. Then you can buy your Challenger!!!!

Well your idea is invalid because you presume I have friends.

But seriously, I'm just not that that kind of person. I figure they've got ways of figuring it out by now because it's been this way forever.

My neighbor runs Ohio tags on all his cars, but he owns a business in Ohio so that's going to be his excuse - they're all corporate vehicles. The guy's a retired cop, so turning him in would just get me revealed anyway. It's always good for getting my wife spun up though.

Knew there was a reason I liked you..

Learned this lesson long ago when changing states, in PA registering ANY car was $36, in NH it's based on it's value. In VA tax value is not Blue Book, but from Black Book Value, or the lenders valuation (higher). So, yeah, like you, my new car is 7 years old.

Collectively, US taxes are much higher than people think. When I first learned that Norway takes $.54 of every $1 made, I thought that was insane, yet once their quality of healthcare, free higher education, paid one month vacations, plus others are considered it seems a bargain.

    US Tax Structure
    http://http://taxfoundation.org/arti...4-tax-brackets
    Fed .28 (10%-39.6%)
    State .06
    Sales .06
    Property .02
Misc. .05 (use, service fees, gasoline, inheritance, death,)
    ======
Total .47 out of every $1 (ballpark w/o deductions, exemptions, mandated vacations, or healthcare)

Why did I get suucked into this, now I too need some of this St. John's Wort - aaarrrrrrrgh!!

I worked with a guy who bought a new car in PA so he paid sales tax there, then moved here so he registered it in WV which means he had to pay sales tax AGAIN, then he moved over to Ohio to avoid the high taxes, and later moved back to WV for a different job, so again, sales tax. In the end he paid sales tax on that same ugly Oldsmobile Blazer-like vehicle three times in that cycle.

Yep, there are a lot of taxes that fly under the radar when people think about their overall tax rate.

I know a retail store that had sales of 4.8 million dollars in 2005. that store paid out in all taxes that year, 1.8 million. these numbers do not include sales tax. that would have put the taxes out at over 2 million. but we collected sales tax.
