    What would you do?

You're putting your new no-expenses-spared full suspension mountain bike on the back of your truck about to head off to the trails when a dorky sixty-something neighbor guy with a bad dye job, and a pug in tow, scurries up a little too close into your personal space putting his hand on your top tube asking "Is this the new one that I saw at Costo?" What would you do?
    a) Punch him right between the eyes knocking him and his blue blockers to the ground!
b)Tell him, "I wouldn't know because I am usually riding your wife!"
c)Ignore him, waiting for him to leave so that you can grab your bike and sneak up behind him to tank slap his dog into the neighbor's bushes.
d)Laugh in his face, they say "not unless Costco is selling one off five-figure bikes, dumb ass!"

    How old are you?

I would just say ďno, I didnít get it from costco. I just built it up myself ď

I donít understand why hitting his dog or a middle school joke would be possible responses.

It is a joke about something that really happened to me. No one was injured! Do your riding partners know that you are no fun?

A joke is supposed to be funny...I am actually a fun guy and always have a good laugh with my riding friends. I guess we all progressed past middle school ďhumorĒ.

And my ego wouldnít have been hurt at all. Why would one expect validation of their expensive bike from someone who knows nothing about bikes?

I was walking my dog down the street and the neighbor's boyfriend rolled up in his truck with a bike hanging over the tailgate. He got out and started to go inside when I said, "Hey Man, I wouldn't leave a YT Capra unattended around here." He told me thanks and rolled it inside. I was wearing a RF T shirt so it was obvious that I ride. Weird that he didn't ask what I rode.

I thought he was putting himself down by
    a) admitting he bought a no expense spared bike and
    b) admitting he $hits in his own front yard by riding his sixty-something year old neighbour. ( I bet she has the purple rinse thing going as well, or does that not happen in the states?)

The invariable answer to stupid questions is always "yes". I feel that it's good to encourage those with feeble minds.

Yes, I did get it at Costco. They're on sale now for $50 and you should go down there and get one for yourself. It's an awesome limited-time deal!

I already knew he where he was riding. The one of four bike parks that isn't a ski resort right now. I'm a full on bike geek. I like to check out what people are riding and their set ups. I rubber neck bikes when I'm in the car, checking the name on the down tube. What can I say, I like bikes.

This is a joke and in horrible taste.

I feel like I want to punch your dog in the face on the way to Costco and wave to the guy leaving your house that your wife is cheating on you with.
    You're a piece of crap.

    E) yell "outta my way jerkass!" hop in your POS Costco truck and try to peel out while making burn out noises.

    F) answer "for sure!" hop on bike, twist hand grip like a throttle while brapping and try to rip POS Costco wheelies right by him

    G) point to the sky and yell "I don't know how but they found me!...the Costcoyians!...run!!" and start running

Follow that up by inviting yourself over to his house later that evening with some POS Costco pizza and beer. Never leave.

    G) works for all kinds of awkward situations btw.

Iím pretty sure we have been misunderstanding the entire situation. His neighbor sulked up and gently put his hand on the OPís ďtop tubeĒ asking if he got it at costco. Everyone knows the best value at costco is the hotdog deal so maybe this isnít about bikes at all, but some neighborly sausage comparison.

The difference being his were actually funny. Idk why anyone thinks there is some pc policing. Everyone just said your joke wasnít funny and that you are just sore that your neighbor thought your no expense bike was from Costco.

Can you please post your bike so we can see what 5 figures, no expense spared, looks like? Not even trying to rag on it. I legit want to see what you spent over 10k on.

First off, having to tell people that you are fun on the internet sounds really needy.
Second, I will never give you closure. I can take people insulting me, my bike, my sexuality and my manhood because the joke was meant to be lighthearted. Your need to see my bike tells me that you are guilty about the POS that you ride. Please show it to me, or I won't even believe that you are a mountain bike rider! You have turned into what you pretended that you detest.

Nothing about this appeared to be as a joke.

You came to a mountain bike forum to discuss what harm you'd cause to somebody who obviously doesn't know anything about bicycles.

And now your defense mechanism is to berate others. Oh wait, that berating is also a joke. Got it.

Good luck with your failed marriage before it even happens.
Jut kidding, it's a joke. Your wife will love you anyway.

Yeah me correcting your incorrect assumption of me being not fun, is really needy. Says the guy who created a whole thread because his fragile ego was shattered when his neighbor mistook his 5 figure bike for a costco POS.
    Projecting much?

One of my bikes just won the last pinkbike reader rides contest so I think it is pretty snazzy and others seem to agree. So much so that I got like $500 of free parts just for having a cool bike. But that is not here nor there.

Letís all take a step back here. To those of you that got butt-hurt, and to the butt-hurters, take two days off from posting on MTBR, unless itís in the cat thread, not much butt-hurt there, except donít post any pics of five figure cats. Thatís a sure way to get into the whole butt hurtness.
To the OP....try to refrain from talking about physically hurting old people because most peeps donít think thatís a joke.
Everyone else.....start white water kayaking to help take the edge off during rainy weather when you canít ride, it works better than snickers.

c)Ignore him, waiting for him to leave so that you can grab your bike and sneak up behind him to tank slap his dog into the neighbor's bushes.

Very classy when (non riders) people ask how much is your bike.
Actually my favorite is, how much was the bike, can I have it? Wtf. No manners these days.

OP, nobody really cares how much your bike was, or how fast you are, etc.
There will always be someone with a nicer bike, better faster rider, etc.

Here are my two pos Costco bikes. I like to ride them in the Costco parking areas before getting a Costco churro. The ďCCĒ frames actually stand for ďCostco CarbonĒ.

Yep, especially during the week when my buddies have to work. Thatís the only time that bike gets ridden. I just lock it to a tree in the woods at the bottom of the run then go to the put-in. When I get done kayaking Iíll lock the kayak to a tree and ride back to the truck.

For most people not involved with the sport $1k is crazy money for a bike.

I just cannot believe the nerve of people being neighborly and chit chatting. Why can't geezers have their face in the their phone and just ignore everyone else?

Nice. I self shuttled a bit a lifetime ago on the Tohican in PA. Been waffling between getting a sea kayak or whitewater for a few years now. Still can't make up my mind.

haha, I did a photo like that of me once with my kids purple bike, complete with training wheels. A local bike mag, think it was AMB, was running a subscription drive, if you and a mate took out a 12 month subscription you got one entry to a comp to win a 2006 Specialized enduro Pro and a 2006 Specialized Enduro Comp. It was one of those 25 words or less caption comps. I had that photo of me "launching" off my balcony into my yard with the caption, "Isn't it time his daughter got her bike back?"

Much to our surprise we one. Sold the Enduro Pro last year for $600 because it had sat unused for too long.

So my memory isn't what it probably should have been, this was 14 years ago now. The bike pic was taken in my back yard and photochopped onto a pic of the 19th hole at Manly Dam bike track. Launch is the rock shelf next to the power pole and it lands below where the photo was taken from. Blacked out my name and face, because I have seen what you lot of done with DJ's image on Grinder. No idea if I still have the digital copy but I knew I had the hard copy at the back of the parts shelf in the garage

I might have it somewhere on an old back up drive but it would take some digging to sift through old files looking for it.

I may be dorky, but I'm not 60 yet and I don't have a pug or blue-blockers. I have, however, taken the opportunity to ask an owner if his expensive bike is from a department store a few times over the years.

SRAM doesn't make a higher end 2X rear derailleur than GX. Higher end 1X derailleurs don't work with 2X. XTR 2X cages break in our rocks, so they aren't a good or popular option around here. There also isn't an XTR front derailleur that fits the Flux. We don't always get everything we want from any manufacturer. Such is life. This is the highest end functional option for Gripshift. An expert like you should know all of this. All of the steel bolts are also swapped for aluminum to try to make up for the weight gains you get without having all of the highest end options available for 2X.

I was going to go after ya mom, but she was still busy with my dad.

Then I would jump in my ute, and blaze out to the trail and ride. I would within 15 seconds of leaving the driveway forget about the conversation awould be right up there on my who gives a farkameter

I think Costco's Jetson Adventure ebike was around $750 when my dad bought one a couple years ago. Maybe it was $999... looks like it's gone up in price in any case. Anyway dad's 89 y/o now and no longer comfortable riding so he gave this BSO to me a month ago. Believe it or not, it's fun to ride. On the street, I mean. Fine for grocery getting or dinking around the 'hood. As for off-road riding, it's totally unworthy -- everything is wrong with this bike -- weight, pogo fork, awful geo, underpowered rear hub motor, etc.

Jetson packed an alarming amount of gravity into this eBSO. Oh well, at least I can say I've joined the ebike revolution. I can't deny that ebikes (even one as crappy as this) are a kick to play around on.

Are wagers being made yet on the identity of the author of post #199? Any current favorites? How about long shots with a higher return on investment?

You also have the power to remove posts should we stop in the 190's waiting for you and Turners mum pops in to get it over the line.

I think we should let it go beyond 199 and only close it when we hit 5 figures.

My theory is that he won't close it anyway. Furthermore, this is a trick to get us up to #199 so Triple T can bump it to #200. Y'all getting played when you should be getting woked.

    What would you do?

You just made some delicious,100% gourmet chili, no expense spared on ingredients for your game night and you are plating it up for your friends. Your dorky 60 something neighbor with a loose sphincter, fez hat, sun shield glasses and zip off cargo shorts come up and rests his hand on the ladle. He says ďis this that new chili from costco?Ē

    Do you:

    a) punch him right in the nose, hopefully breaking it and making his choke on his own blood.

    b) tell him ďI wouldnít know, I am too busy eating your momís chiliĒ

    c) wait until he walks away and then take your chili, sneak up on him and turn his dog into a chili dog.

    d) tell him ďnot unless costco sells one off, artisanal chili.....dumbass!!!Ē

If anyone was waiting in antici-----pation....

    The company was hilarious.
    The chilli was stellar.
    The beer went down well.
My cards sucked all night. I wasn't going to win a damn thing with 7-2, J-3, 4-5 and a crappy flop. I'm never using that deck again.

P.S. I watched Army Of Darkness, a movie that one of my riding buddies has been trying to get me to watch for years. No doubt there was more cheese in that movie than you guys went through consuming all that chili.

That's a great movie if you know what you're getting into. Just so you know to keep expectations low. Kinda like watching the last three Tremors films.
