    What the H

Happened to this forum, is it just me that's bored to death here lately. This place made a serious left turn about a month back. Or maybe I'm wrong can anyone enlighten me on what's changed.

One hour has passed since I launched this thread and 68 views. So the people are out there but they're just not posting. Tbis place has become a place to Lurk about but few participate in the mayhem.

Attention Lurkers it's time to join the party. Get in and post once in awhile you might just like it. And don't worry about becoming addicted we hold an intervention once a month for those that become ailienanted from loved ones.

Yeah I hear ya. Coming from the guy who started the "Obsession" thread, I can see how and why you would feel that way about all other threads. Over 14,000 posts, must be a record round here, you're a legend.
Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the same old same old, maybe it's the rep thing, idk, but it's something. It seams a lot of regulars who were very entertaining don't post much anymore.

    some ideas
-a good old fashioned well deserved troll beat down, oh, can't do that anymore
-a few pics of Nicole to tease us
-a post from the man formerly known as AZ that's more than one line. Let's see some passion since we can't see the bike.

It happens every 20 years or so and lasts a few years. Just a natural cycle. You'd think it was something else with some of the terms like "invasion", and "bugs by the billions" that our media likes to spin.
Cool thing to do is find a newly dead one, you know still juicy, and tie it onto a string and whip it around to hear the sound they make.

Maybe we should go troll the 29ers. They seem to enjoy it. I'm curious if the 27.5/650b/indecisive people will be the same way, or if they'll be more laid back.

I'm just curious about the title. Is that supposed to be a 7 letter word ending with an H? Or a 6 letter word describing the H word?

This happened one time since I have lived out here. It is a crazy sight for sure. However, the fishing is incredible when these suckers are everywhere. The bass attack anything on top of the water during this time. Best thing to do is scoop up a bucket of them and tie one on. Toss it out and BAM! I can't wait!!!!

Did you guys see that super-troll going by the user name of "MODERATOR"? Geez, what a trouble maker. He shows up in one of the threads I started and posts a-hole replies, already carrying a string of red chicklets. It's now just a little while later and he's already perma-banned...

    Good work Mods!

    * theMeat- I'm with ya on the idea of getting members together for group rides. Before I die, I'm gonna ride with these members (since they live close enough to make it happen):

    Optimus
    Dirty $anchez

Why don't we just meet in the middle ... someplace like Minnesota at Cayuna http://cuyunalakesmtb.com/

This is the middle since we have to account for Canada.

DJ, since you left Cali, I have to assume you know the way back.

Anyhow, I think it'll be a Fall trip to the Phoenix area for some group riding madness. I'm open to driving out there in the middle of August just to shake the hand of whoever may be there for business, too and to sip a beer in an air conditioned topless bar if nothing else.

heyyall, why did North America have to be so damned big? It's not fair to have to drive/fly so far to meet everyone.

I might be able to find my way back to So. Cal. if all
the critters haven't eaten all the bread crumbs I
dropped along the way a year a go.

As you pointed out Hawg it's kinda hard to pick a
middle ground for everyone to meet. But tne
Phoenix in the fall sounds awesome to me and a middle of the road from Co. to So. Cal.

Lol, I didnt say I attended! Sheesh, you guys know I don't ride a singlespeed!

I live in the area. Everyone is busy when Coachella fest comes around. I could work the show if I wanted to, I have the connections. But I have zero interest in doing so. Don't get me wrong, I love a good festival and good music, but Coachella fest ceased to be about either before I even moved into the area. It's a scene. People are there cause it is 'cool'. I shook my head in sadness when I saw packed pools at resorts while concerts were going on. People aren't going for the music, or to enjoy laid back festival vibes. They go because celebrities go, and their friends go, and the 'scene' is super 'hip'(ster), and they can brag about how 'cool' and 'forward' they are, talking about bands no one has heard of (usually for good reasons... ). Ugh. Makes me retch just thinking about the crowd again. But, they are rich. Most with mom and dad's money. And they throw the money all over town trying to outdo each other's coolness levels. Coachella people are like kids at carnivals, and everyone in town turns into carnies who are happy to take the extra money off the bimbos with dad's credit card.

So, yes, I have been busy taking all the extra hours at work. We are also busy with regular seasonal stuff of fortune 500 and 1% ers throwing big parties for themselves to celebrate how rich they are. With the kind of money they throw around, I can tell most don't even look at prices. They sign a check for whatever they are charged. Unfortunately for me, I read the bills and can see how badly they are getting screwed on prices, and how badly I am getting screwed on my paycheck!

I still visit occasionally. But lately, school has picked up like crazy and I just haven't had much time for trolling and foruming and all the good stuff that this place offers. To top it all off, I'm moving once finals are over, so that'll take a few days before I'm able to get back on here for good. But I'm still around!
Sometimes, I question the value of my content.

Oh, also, its gardening season. I just discovered a 15"+ long zucchini (5" or so diameter at it's thickest part) growing quite happily. It seems that every year there is one zucchini the other ******* zucchinis forgot to tell that it lives in a desert. Last year's was a bit short of a foot long.

I used to frequent some amazing festivals annually. Always had the time of my life. Unfortunately the east coast is apparently no different than it is there. Festivals now are more like Dave Matthews Band shows.

^ I hear that. I work two jobs. An 8-5 and then bike tech at night from 5:30-9. Between that and trying to enjoy some of this nice weather with riding, white water kayaking, fishing, and a little bit of sleep I find time to post. But Tones posts always brighten up my day. NO tones, I'm not interested.....

Its too big to do much with. Stuffed or grilled, not sure which I will do yet. The last one I left on the vine too long, in hopes it would get bigger. Despite my best efforts, it stayed the same size, and ended up all woody and bitter tasting.

And watching a giant zucchini grow keeps you from posting. I was out of the loop for a day after painting my bathroom. Watching paint dry can keep you from your every day ritchuals as well.

All I can add is that this is going to be seriously disturbing when it is revealed that IRL Tone's is an 11 year old girl.

That's not how you get it to grow bigger. Try rubbing gently, it'll grow, but it'll still be woody.

Just like a good novel, I'll consider it money well spent if there's a happy ending in it for Tone's.

If the OC didn't sneak up on me like that, I would have been able to watch it and nuture it more. One day, I am all like, "Oh, lookit those cute wittle zucchinis! I can't wait until they are big enough to pick!" Then the OC is like, "FIFTEEN WOODY INCHES IN YOUR FACE, B!TCH!"

Honestly, I have a (sad little) life here to attend to. I can't babysit show-off produce...

Well with all of that lanolin in their wool they are self lubing

On a serious note, why do Kiwi's root sheep on the edge of cliffs? Apparently they push back harder.

On a serious note: Why do Kiwi's wear cowboy boots? To put the sheeps back legs in to keep them from getting away.

Bwaaaahaaaa. I put more miles on my bike this morning than you did all of last year so feel free to STFU. You get negative comments because your a whiny gonad gargling fan boi that doesn't know when to quit, and cant even find the correct thread to post your man love in.

Roadie I ride my bike daily. I commute to work. So your claim is not true. As for not finding the proper thread I wasn't the first one to start talking about NASCAR in this thread. Learn to place blame correctly. The first mention of NASCAR was by Scottap2003.

I'll simply ignore the name calling.

all well and good brewtality but can you play a banjo? Hope so because in my books you aren't what I envisage a true redneck to be unless you can duel with your step brother (who also happens to be your uncle) on the banjo.

I'm a real, regular, cali hippie. We own tons of water guns, grow our own food, chug hard alcohol, and drive beat up old cars with decent gas mileage.
And we think NASCAR is asinine. Apparently, the folks in LA would rather watch the nightly high speed police chases through town. I think they are asinine too. I guess that is the Sierras in me.

I don't think this could ever work...

Really?! I was first? I'm pretty sure you brought it up in post #78, then I said something in #81.

Besides that, Johnson has been mentioned in some form in this thread since Tone's came in.

Post #78 wasn't talking about Johnson. You were the first to bring his name up. Besides post #78 was referring to the fact that things have been dead around here and no one has even posted in the NASCAR thread in some time.

You bring up NASCAR, I bait you with a Johnson comment. That's how it works.

I know junior, but that's the point. I like to bait him too. He used me up and threw me away a few months ago, so now I just try to get his attention. Now he's moved on to the ladies of the OC, and Nic gives as well as she takes, so he'll be tied up with her for a long time.

MiniTrail, he's just Kona and that's all I have to say.

RandyBoy, you're driving diesel motors, that's cheating. Maya is probably driving an old, beat up, rusted out, '65 bug. I know the type. We call them DESERT RATS. BTW, that was a compliment, Maya.

. This is correct. There are shades of rednecks too based on the number of flags and the size of the lift kit on the pickup.

Yes, that's why I said hill billies are a type of redneck. One type, limited to their own territory, but with much in common where beliefs and practices are concerned.

Not a bug, but my car is *almost* as old as me. The one I brought down here was only a few years old when I got it, but the desert killed it (twice, in fact. Long story.) and I had to get a clunker to replace it.

I had a 69' BaJa bug back in my teens. I had it all tricked out. Unfortunately VW's air cooled motors produce almost nothing in the defroster department. Came out of my retail job around midnight to a snow storm. I couldn't see through the windshield and high centered it on a median and broke the rear axle. A cop happened to be right behind me. A reckless driving ticket and a tow later.

I had it towed to a VW specialist shop. But with towing and storage fees I couldn't afford the repair. So I sold it to the shop. They parted it out and for several years I saw several other bugs running around with various parts of my sweet BaJa bug.

That car was a blast in the snow and off road. With the rear mounted motor and off road suspension with huge rear tires it would blast through anything. I would love to build another one some day.

Same here, and you're welcome. I bet there are quite a few on here that are not old enough to have ever saw that movie or that scene. If any of you are reading this watch the movie some time. It's a timeless classic. "Deliverence".

If you only saw Deliverance once then read this and then go and watch it a second time.

looking at those clips now I am beginning to understand that watching those movies as a prepubescent boy explains a lot about "what the ....h" happened to make me who I am now.

Yep Deliverence is one of my favorites as well. And thanks for the link which was very interesting. Some amazing tidbits of information. I'm glad someone besides myself recognized the quality of such a flick out of the 1970's. As far as the Carrie movie I never watched it,all the way through so no comment. So now I'm curious as to how these
movies made you what you are today.

Haha Dirtjunkie, don't hold your breath.

It has recently been brought to my attention by a couple of "inside sources" I have, that Tone's is actually a government agent by the name of Michael Fitzpatrick. He is employed to gather information on unsuspecting people and pass this information on to the relevant authorities both in this country and yours. The persona he projects here and all of the antics he purports to get up to are just a red herring to make it easier for "Tones" to gain our trust so he can gather intelligence. Yes I know the thought of Tone's gathering intelligence is not something that any of us here would ever have imagined but alas, the truth is now out of the bag.

With this knowledge fresh to hand I feel that it is important that some things are left unsaid for fear of incriminating myself.

Of course the sad thing in all of this is that my sources have also revealed that NicoleB is actually Tone's, or should I say Michael Fitzpatricks' US contact and is actually a chain smoking 65 year old Caucasian male by the name of Patrick Fitzmichael, employed by your government agencies but currently working a desk job as he nears retirement. Even their names would suggest they are a good fit.

Be warned fellow OCers, they are watching.

In it's most previous life before me, it spent a number of years as a driver's ed car, and the teacher thought it would be cool if all the students who passed signed the inside of the car. It is COVERED in signatures. I'm tellin ya, the car is a serious clunker!

To answer the original question I have not been on here as much the past 4ish maybe 5 months for the following reasons:

    1. A lot of the threads got very repetitive to me, the standard stuff of wheel size wars, component choice, etc... which is all great and good, but after 2 years of contributing I got board of saying my opinion for the 8th time, or listing what goes in my pack for the millionth time. I just got a little board. Even in the beer forum that I was very active in, it just became the normal "what stoat is like this?" or "I just drank this". Really I may have just gotten board of the topics in general, not the forum.

    2. The forum format change, while it's an improvement, I was so used to the old style I didn't feel like taking a ton of effort to learn the new one right away.

    3. 650B, yea yea I don't give a rats ass about your opinion, what bugged me is the lemming affect and how that was the new it thing that had to be defended as valiantly as your daughters virginity. Looks like its here to stay, but the fan-boys got real annoying. Didn't feel like getting involved in the "hot topic" so I bowed out of a lot of the conversations.

    4. Most of my time on here was to pass the time at work, and I realized I could be more productive by reading a classic novel, sketching, learning, than on here. Unfortunately there was a stint of me being on reddit way to much, but now I am trying to use the slow hours for something personally gainful.

I lurk in the shadows about once-ish a week, but don't contribute as much.

Bummer I missed a good hillbilly discussion.

To me a red neck is just a jackass who likes to cause trouble. You're more likely to find them in the city than in the country.

Watch for "Hillbilly: The Real Story" on the History Channel. You'll see the difference.

I would suggest spending less time "out there" contributing and more time in here, The OC, enjoying the funny side of life.

True, I was in here quite a bit. Not to sound all hipster but I was involved when it was still just the trash-bin.

Sorry Bill, I should have started the link from when the house starts to fall down.

DJ the Carrie reference wasn't an impact on me but a comment on how much special effects have changed since then, also the fact that the hand rising from the ground was an homage to the hand rising from the water at the end of Deliverance.

oh, no need to apologize. i read that article about deliverance. made me want to see it again. i saw it in high school one night while on a canoeing trip down the chatuga. yep, same river.

standard stuff of wheel size wars, component
choice, etc... which is all great and good, but after
2 years of contributing I got board of saying my
opinion for the 8th time, or listing what goes in my
pack for the millionth time. I just got a little board.
Even in the beer forum that I was very active in, it
just became the normal "what stoat is like this?"
or "I just drank this". Really I may have just gotten
board of the topics in general, not the forum.

    2. The forum format change, while it's an improvement, I was so used to the old style I
didn't feel like taking a ton of effort to learn the
    new one right away.

All valid reasons but as Emu26 said "less time out there and more in here the OC". I think the
majority including myself got a little iritated at
stating the same opinion over and over again.
That's going to happen when there are only so
many subjects to talk about pertaining to one sport
mountain biking. That and the heated arguments
due to hardheaded one way only attitudes "out
    there".

It's the complete opposite in here, the OC. Lighthearted people talking about everything
under the sun sans mountain biking. And about
you saying you get no personal growth in a
positive way from spending time here. And other
activities add more to your life. Not everything in
life has to be a growth experience. This place is just
another form of recreation nothing more and
nothing less. That's not to say there is nothing here
to be learned and absorbed. Hell read some of
Tones posts some time. Anyway with that said I
think if you spend less time out there and more
time in here [the OC ] you may gain a newfound
respect and start contributing more. I hope you do
the more contributions the better, and the more interesting it gets.

Got it now. Sorry sometimes things aren't as obvious as they should have been. As Bill
said that was a long 4 minutes in the Carrie scene.
Hard to watch on a cell phone, the lighting was very dark. The hand coming out of the water has been used in several other movies as well. I'm sure
Deliverance was it's pioneer and others followed. Great movie and one of my favorite classics. As for Carrie I hve no desire to watch. I'm not into those possessed supernatural flicks. Although out of all the scary movies I have seen the Exorcist gave me the chills. Not too many other ones really scare me.

Apparently good times were had by all. Because they certainly weren't posting up a storm around here.
