    Spam Bots

Does anyone know why they exist?

What is the point of posting a bunch of jibberish on a site? I could understand spam like "get a larger weener" or something, but it does not even make sense. Why????

Manipulating page ranks. Idea is to direct you to a page (found through an organic search) and show you various ads there and entice you to click through links.

    That is quite profitable.

I currently earn money analyzing this crap for digital advertizing. So I do not complain much.

So does this work with "smart adds" that are on the page your navigating? The smart add "reads" the forum, and all the keywords in the spam bots post change what the add is?

I don't ever click adds on a page, and am relatively surprised people do.

It has to do with you actually getting to a page - found through search.

Oh, they do. We log a gazillion clicks daily. Impressions also bring in money.

This is a thriving industry - and mostly legitimate.

My wife's blog brings in pennies a day through ads, but it is more interesting to see how the ads mirror the content. It is actually quite remarkable but sometimes it is inappropriate.

That is what I am designing at this moment - a better context classification system. Also search pattern prediction and other utter crap that pays the bills.

Twelve years of experimental astrophysics education being put to good use..
