Yes it is, and so are all the ones in those other two threads. All this thread does is make me click more.

You posted that ^ one in the other thread. So which one is more satisfying in your opinion?

I was thinking the same at first, but then I remembered trying to stand on a board floating in water, lol!

Maybe with the forward momentum it'd be doable?

If you could stick the landing, which I bet you could, it'd prolly be just like snowboarding powder.

Ok, I got butt-in-the-air babe looping but now it says the file is too large when I try to upload it, exceeds the max file size for a gif! So do these have to be hosted elsewhere?

The big difference between skateboarding and surfing is that to "pump" on a transition on a skateboard you load your back foot, to pump a surfboard you load the front foot. I've done enough "boat surfing" to have it figured out ok, but so many years of skateboarding make the surfing pump kind of counter intuitive. Snowboarding doesn't rely on pumping for speed of course as you go downhill, but it too is a rear foot pump for the time you are on firm enough snow and there is the right shape to pump speed through.

Jack, nothing against snowboarding or any board sport but I always get a kick out of skiing with boarders and coming to a flat spot. I can get hauling pretty quick sprinting the skis while the boarder has to dismount one binding and push along clumsily. Im already sitting and eating lunch by the time they get to the lodge.

PRo-tip #1 if you go to an unknown hill where you don't know where the flats are, WAX YOUR BOARD!

It's exceedingly rare that a skier passes me on flats, ski resorts generally don't have much/any terrain that is truly flat, and with a fresh wax you move along just fine, plus I'm not scared to pin it to get across flats as needed.

Many/most snowboarders think that you cannot ride a snowboard flat on its base, but they're wrong, you do have to practice it though, and when you do it you have no control over your direction as you inherently have to go down the fall line, but "flat basing" is a fantastic tool to teach you how to get the most speed out of your board. I'm not a big fan of speeding for the sake of speeding, but learning how to ride your board flat will help anyones snowboarding immensely, most notably, once you learn it it makes edge transfers smoother as you know how to deal with that moment when your board is flat between the turns...

I'll give that a go. Great info on board technique. I'll pass that along to my brother who boards. It always seems like he has issues on the flats. He's an excellent boarder though. Not sure if he has riding the board flat down though.

The thing is, most people have an aversion to riding dead flat on their board, and they don't know it, so unless you intentionally practice it, you will ride your board slightly on one edge, at a very slight angle to the direction you are travelling, and that kills some speed. When you are riding dead flat you have no choice but to have the board pointing totally straight in relation to your direction of travel, this eliminates that bit of speed loss from being on one edge and travelling slightly sideways.

Cat tracks are of course not always totally level side to side, in those situations you need to ride flat till you are pointing sort of towards the edge of the cat track, then make one slight CARVED turn (carving as opposed to skidding minimizes speed loss) then get back on the flat of the board.

I'm not a boarder but it all makes sense. I know my brother has talked about riding flat for speed and feeling out of control. Not to take this thread too far off course, Korn will have a fit when he sees this. btw thanks for the image hosting site suggestion, it worked. I just posted some botany. Not sure if I can get a gif to work off there though.

This thread will never be satisfying to me until the mystery of posting a gif is cracked. On my end anyway.

You drive me crazy sometimes, look at your post #73, just because you can find a pic of some funky cartoon dude holding an apple and an orange doesn't make it post worthy. I think you can do better, but you're just not trying.

Maybe I am being a jerk. Maybe it's because it's so big and blurry?

Why don't you use the forum uploader? It works with a lot of pics and gifs, just not imgur.
