Primary computer OS for posting on MTBR

Indicate your primary and prefered OS on your computer that you use to post on MTBR. This would include Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, and Smart Phone.

For me I use Ubuntu Linux on my laptop at home which is my primary computer. I am "required" to use Windows XP and 7 at work.

This is not intended to be a debate, I'm just curious to see the numbers from the MTBR crowd

Only use Windows on my Toughbook at work. Any other time it is my iPad or MBP should I need it enough to dig it out of my home office.

Another Linux guy here! Lubuntu on home netbook; Ubuntu at work. There's an MS-dominated admin network at work I don't use for MTBR to stay off the radar.

WinXP for playing online, kind of like hanging out at the bar.
Linux to get real work done.
    Android elsewhere.
I'm trying to think if we're ever not connected anymore, that's a tuffy.

Windows 7 on my desktop and laptop and I use Google Chrome and FireFox when GC wants to act stupid. This site seems to be the only I visit that doesn't get along well with GC. Then there's the iPhone too, though I don't post often from there.

Macbook Pro - both Mac OS, and Windows 7 under VmWare and under bootcamp. Also Linux under VmWare for development. I use all three. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Windows 7 is the best IMO. Waiting for 8. And for the new hi-res Macbook Pro.

Macbook Pro, primarily. Use Windows too, but it's stationary and not a notebook.

The hi-res Mac is very nice. You'll like the screen.

I never had a virus on a Windows computer either. The ONLY reason Apple OS had less known exploits is that nobody cared to write them - with the tiny market share it had. (And I am typing this on Macbook Pro with OS X and Windows running simultaneously)

I worked for Compaq/HP for just short of 8 years, and had viruses suddenly pop up from “out of nowhere” on the PeeSea. Some dimwit got their inbox full of viruses, and they spread the love throughout my organisation. One of those buggers took more than three weeks of time from the IT people before it went completely away; slightly less obtrusive than venereal disease.

I never had a PC that ran full speed; always bogged down by countermeasure software.

And you’re wrong on the exploits reason—Windoze has always has craploads of communications ports open from the getgo, and it was only a matter of time before some dillhards with nothing better to do than screw with people trying to get their intarwebs on were stealing their megahurtz. Closing those ports became a multi-billion dollar industry.

I am exactly right on the exploits reason. People write exploits for widely deployed software.

And do not compare old versions of Windows. Remember Mac OS 9? It did not need any exploits to freeze.

    And now:
During the first three months of 2012, Apple led all major technology vendors with 91 reported vulnerabilities (http://cve.mitre.org/); followed by Oracle (78), Google (73), Microsoft (43), IBM (42), Cisco (36), Mozilla (30), MySQL (28), Adobe (27), and Apache (24).

I'm currently using Fedora Linux on an old Pentium 4 setup. My browser of choice is Firefox with Adblock and Adblock helper. Just using this old system until I can get my new notebook. It has XP installed as well yet I only use it for printing projects as it's very slow to process input. It seems Linux doesn't care for my printer.

I prefer Windows 7. Easy to use and it runs all of my favorite games.

Right, but I am just stating that I’ve never had these problems, just as you are stating you’ve supposedly never had any Windoze issues either. I used to engage in “unethical file swapping” on a large scale—in the 1990s—and amazingly never received any harmful payload. Getting OS9 running properly was a bit of a fustercluck though, I found that setting up different settings via Extension Manager to alleviate most problems… a damn sight better than viruses/malware/spyware though.

I did what you did. Went from Morse to Binary, then to ASCII text. I'm able to read it going that path.

ps. you're a clever dude highdelll. I was wanting to throw in smoke signals, to further complicate the puzzle. Will have to settle for the enigma code next.

I would personally like to cut off the d*ck and balls (or appropriate reproductive wear) of every little maggot that's written virus code that's caused me down time on my PC, just because they think it's "fun" to f*ck with peoples machines and software. Their punishment should be being kicked in the balls before amputation for an hour for every hour of down time they've caused PC users, by each individual user. An eye for an eye...

I agree. Those prˇcks created a multi-billion dollar IT industry just keeping PCs running properly. It’s no wonder my 3.4GHz work PC runs like a 400MHz Pentium II, seeing as the countermeasure software packages are constantly sucking up CPU cycles in the background. Couple that with the bloated turd-ass Windoze 7 and we’re talking molasses computing. NT 4.0 was great except for the lack of USB support. But nooooo— they had to go and bloat it up tenfold with XP… which I still prefer over Vista (the digital toilet handle of OS’s) or Windoze 7.

Mostly in iOS via tapatalk but occasionally on the MacBook if I just have to give someone rep.

I'm tired of Apple though, currently entertaining options. It's just so easy. It's built for idiots and creative people. And I'm not creative.

That is your problem. Windows 7 is just fine. Much better than Mac OS X - I run that as well as Red Hat and Ubuntu.

It really does not matter - but Windows has the best font rendering. Much easier on my eyes.

I’d like to agree with you on Windoze 7… but I think they engineered too much “are you sure you want to ______ ?” second-guessing the user subroutines into the OS. I wish to all high hell there was a way to disable this… I think I actually would gain respect for Microsoft if they did this. Hell, even Apple started copying this technique I think in OSX 10.5.x; my main Mac still runs OSX 10.4.11 and it still treats me with respect. They should just require that people take standardised Mensa IQ screening tests before they are allowed to own computers rather than treat us all like idiots.
Uh oh! Someone just stole your KOM!

I have an Intel Mac that I've partitioned to have Windows XP to run software for my sewing/embroidery machines. Yeah, it's old, but sewing machine manufacturers don't like to upgrade their crap and they sure aren't going over to a Mac OS anytime soon. I don't boot over unless I'm using those programs so I don't need newer versions of Windows.

I got tired of Windows crashing on me every 10 minutes or spyware programs hogging everything and once I realized you could partition the hard drive of a Mac, it was an easy sell.

I hate being an iSheep, but it works for my needs. I have an iPad and a couple of other tablets via Kindle and Barnes and Noble.

ALways find these pretty funneh considering i have Windows back from 3.11 and i think i NEVER had one virus ... Sometimes the problem is between the chair and monitor not the system itself.

    DISCLAIMER:
I'm no Windows fan, i've been using and developing for *nix since i was in highschool and had quite a few Mac's ( still have one for developing purposes ).

I prefer Windows 7. Easy to use and it runs all of my favorite games.
I've had issues with Cannon printers but HP and Dell have worked without any issues using Debian, Ubuntu (or Ubuntu based), or Fedora. What kind of printer do you have?

Apple here... I used to be a hardcore Windows guy, but the iPhone was a bit of a gateway drug!
