In McCall ID, there was a long-vacated gas station on the main drag that left its early-2000s gas prices up on the marquee, and they sat there for at least 10 years. They were in the $1.50/gal range IIRC. Anyway, it was always fun to watch the occasional tourist pull into the driveway, pause for a moment and then peel out back onto the road in a huff.

I always laugh at the old prices. I had a car that was my daily driver and ran on race gas. 105-109oct and I paid $3.50 gal. People thought I was insane.

I'm sure they shared the nickname...the Obree bio-pic was titled "The Flying Scotsman". There's also a classic train movie by that title. There are a couple of films that feature Jackie Stewart. Weekend of a Champion was directed by Roman Polanski, a friend of Stewart's. Here's a trailer...

And an old shot of the Whiskey. That place still rocks as far as I know. Last time I drove by about 20 years ago it had a line a block long waiting to get in.

Love the photo period correct old cars cruising by, especially the 1970 Dodge Challenger.

You made me look! And look all over the place! I couldn't find the prices then "OH!" Damn, can we just go back to that time?! Here in Kalifornistan we're close to being able to shift that decimal a skosh-bit to the left and they'll be right on the money.

Between CA & federal, the tax alone on a gallon of gas today is about 15¢ more than the total price per gallon (taxes incl.) shown in that pic.

LA has a lot of history. This is the oldest still standing McDonalds in Downey. I’ve been by it. Plus, the famous Randy’s Donuts, which I also happened upon. Many delivery routes through SoCal took me all around. Just happened up these places by surprise.

My Dad's office for his business was right around the corner on Paramount from the old McD's.

And the giant Randy's donut. Almost directly under the approach path of 24R at KLAX! Been there on many limousine fueled drunken stoopers, usually after a gnarly chili-burger with peppers from Tommy's on Rampart Blvd.

I haven't had a Tommy's in years... I think I can only do that once a year now! After high-school I worked at Pup "n" Taco (not sure who remembers those!!) across from a Tommy's. We used to trade food all the time lol.

Good old Tommy’s. There was one in Vista Ca. which was right down the street from where I worked. Many a stop there on my way home. Good greasy burger and a great breakfast joint.

I can still hear in my head the Pup and Taco radio commercial with a Felix-the-cat sort of voice-over! So YEAH, I remember that! That wasn't the La Puente location, was it by chance? I'm trying to recall all the Tommy's locations when they branched out. We even got one in La Habra. None were ever the same as Rampart. I remember well when there was only the one Tommy's on Beverly/Rampart. I had my first Tommy's Chili-dog in about 1971 when my oldest sister and my then new brother-in-law took me there in his suped up '70 Chevy Malibu. I was expecting a Der Wienerschnitzel style hot dog with a line of chili on it and, if you've been, you know how far off that would be! It was a layer of wax-paper in a basket with about 3 pounds of chili and somewhere in there, a frikkin' big ol hot dog in a bun completely concealed by it! Not at all what I had ever seen ever up to that point in my young life!

LOL yeah Tommy's is brutal, and those hot dogs, if you can find it! lol are huge, or at least used to be.

No it was the Eagle Rock location, now there is a Taco Bell across the street which is who bought Pup n Taco. I think that was like the 3rd location they opened at the time.

There two other burger joints like "Jim's Burgers" type up Colorado blvd, those pretty good too, and a great Thai place which was right across from Tommy's.

That Beverly/Rampart location was chaotic LOL - you had to wait a good hour to get your food. I think I only went there once, even though I worked in Downtown for a long time. Weekends, forget it!!

Sure is, looks like the previous year, a 1967. Showing the huge change in the vette body style from 1967 to 1968.
