Upset Photobucket stops hosting images on 3rd party sites

So I got an email saying that Photobucket needed $399 to show my pictures.
Damn it's going to be a lot of work to fix all my links and posts.
Anyone else getting the ransom message. Their email has been shut down so you can't contact them too.

I used to post pics on Biglines.com
They lost almost one thousand pictures of mine.
Haven't had any problems with Flickr.

I was a paying customer. $19.99 a year is a reasonable fee to get image hosting. Now it's $399.

Are you sure you're not getting scammed?

I use photobucket to host all my photos and it is working fine. No issues logging in to the site either. I am a paying customer.

I've seen a few posts in various threads display an error saying to update your photobucket account to enable 3rd party hosting.

The only issue I've had is some photos randomly won't display on certain forums. Same exact TR, copy/pasted, and photos won't display on MTBR but they will elsewhere. Weird.

Hmm. I'm a non-paying user, who has a small collection of images there, and they still show up OK.

News Corporation bought Photobucket in 2007, probably just to acquire some IP of theirs, then sold them off a couple of years later after laying off much of the staff. I'm surprised they've lasted this long.

Can you post a picture up here. My membership from last year expired and they just sent me an email yesterday. I can still log in to the site and all my photos are there.

The image I posted in this old thread is hosted on PB, and still loads fine.

Yep, I got the email yesterday. I didn't delve into the price to upgrade though. At $399 I won't be using them anymore. Eyes wide open for free or cheap replacement.

I've been having problems with Photobucket for several weeks now; they wanted me to upgrade; a hundred buck plan at first---now $400.

Maybe this is that "ransomware" we've been hearing about?

Funny thing is that I tried to pay for the lessor upgrade and their pay site locks up; apparently because it's not secure.

For $399 it sounds more like a fisting experiment.

Could be but it means that Photo Bucket got hijacked and they haven't been able to fix it for several weeks.

Mine aren't showing. That sucks. I can still go to my account and see all my photos. I think it's a scam so I'll wait it out. That would be financial suicide to charge people $400 for that service, everyone would leave.

I have a ton of pictures on garage journal. I exceeded the bandwidth after a couple months and it seemed like a fair deal to pay for some more. I still would if it was in the 20 to 30 range. I don't see them coming back from this. I for one am moving on.

Actually I'm thinking it is a smart and devious and calculating move on their part. 99% of the users will leave so their storage requirements and costs will go way down. A few people will be so inconvenienced they'll pay. Revenues go up, costs go down.

I just downloaded the whole bucket album under actions on the right side of the screen. I'd do it now while you still can, who knows when they will restrict that too.

I am set up on an annual auto renewal. They just hit my paypal account for the normal $30 yearly fee a couple days ago. There's no way $399/yr is real. Did anyone try phoning them?

I'm with the group that just got the email notification within the last day or three. I didn't click to see what they are demanding though.

I'll just wait a while then go track down Mr Photobucket and publish pictures of his house, address and phone number so we can harass the heck of out him.

Cutout the middleman: A little bit of spit, polish, and a cheap cloud instance would cost a whole lot less than $399/year.

My photos no longer appear. I have thousands of them on hundreds of sites.

    I don't think it's a hack, I think it's extortion.

Exactly what I was thinking. Extortion. Maybe they will come to their senses.

Net Neutrality has ended and the ISPs are quickly giving people and corporations the shaft like in Europe.
Our ISP Cox just set a download limit without incurring severe penalties. We've always had unlimited internet here, until now.
You can thank the people "Making America Great Again" they passed, or should I say repealed the laws and regulations that had kept that under control.

Blaming the new laws on download limits and such. Sorry but its kind of an LOL moment.

We've had limits here for a few years in the midwest, long before any of these laws doing much or being repealed.

As for the photobucket thing, i cant even get the site to load for crap. Nothing about this rediculous fee or anything else for me. But cant do much of anything, hated photobucket the last couple years so stopped using them.
