That's is nice. I'll make a trip to Fort Collins or Boulder with camera in hand sometime. Serious bike towns.

    Nice ^^

Page one almost slipped by without a DJ weather report.

Today was cloudy with 20 mph winds on and off and 65 degrees. A bit off from yesterday's dead calm 82 degrees. I had to work so I couldn't get out to enjoy it. A couple shots from today.

I drive by it going to and coming home from work. It's just too amazing looking and scerine not to stop in and relax after work.

There's actually two loactions that I drive by. The one with the lake I stop and relax for a bit. The other one is just pulling over for a photo on the way home.

    Thanks Net.

That's to cure the 480 resolution. Although you could render a square resolution @ 16:9, but it wold probably look "stretched".

He needs to change the camera to shoot in a different resolution.

I have it set at 960p. Yes, that features a vertical view. I experimented early on with pixel settings for how we use these cameras. Anything above 960 is too powerful. the picture breaks up at speed. I no likey dat.

    Aspect ratio.

960 is a square aspect ratio...try shooting in 720, if 1080 is too much.

Most all displays these days display in a rectangular aspect ratio. If the video was shot in a square aspect ratio, the display will just add black vertical bars on each side. (reeking of amateurism)

720 at 60 fps will give a nice smooth video.

Tried 720/60. It's nice but with my eagle vision, I can see a considerable downgrade in sharpness using that setting. Besides, a bike and it's rider is a vertical form, therefore that picture frame surrounding them should be of similar dimensions. Otherwise, the bike and it's rider get lost in a vast view. I commonly do the DJ panoramic for you guys so that you have an idea of what the landscape looks like before I start rolling.

Maybe I am being selfish. I don't take into consideration how the video looks online. It looks awesome on my computer when I watch my movies directly from my library, though.

I have tried it. Pixelation like mad. Just like how heyyall's videos break up in the foliage shots on his trail rides. 1080 is over kill for fast motion recording.

Since we are on the subject of music here, I am going to bite my tongue and say that Axle Rose sang incredibly well at the Coachella Music Festival this weekend. My cousin was there and recorded some of their performance. If he can continue to sing that well, he will do well for AC/DC.

We still love you because you live right around the corner from Bootleg and because you have a spacious garage with a restroom. I could live in there by taking splash baths in a five gallon bucket, setting up a cot to sleep upon, and plugging in a mini refrig for nutritional needs.

So yes, we still love you...

    OCC Bike Thread V14

Two things have irritated me today

After working 11.5hrs again with no breaks or lunch, I find I have a parking warning on my truck. I was touching a line --which was intentional so we could shift a create extra room on "truck row". This is the third time. Each of the prior times I have called the parking office to discus. The supervisor thanks us and knows the spot. He says it's fine. New security trying hard to do their job don't always get informed. I called as I was leaving - it turns out they had gone home for the day. I hope to be nice to the person that answers the phone tomorrow.

I learned today that I missed the Game of Thrones season kickoff last night!!!! I've waited for months for the kick off. sadly I was working - first 5 hrs in the office and then three hours at night doing journal reviews and had to miss it due to an absent mind.

All I can say is I'm sucking big time at my "work less" resolution.

I'm working less, and riding less... spent the day today and yesterday defragmenting the garage. It started as just trying to fit two vehicles in there and has lead to many WTF do I have this moments. It'll be worth all the time spent if I can do projects without moving ten things to get to something.

On a lighter note, my new-old cast iron skillet is starting to look better. It has a long way to go before it looks like the one of the right, but it is cooking nicely.

I'm trying to figure out if I'd like Game of Thrones.

I like movies about gladiators... jk, I like medieval fantasies such as Gladiator, Robin Hood, LOTR. And of course, my all time favorite: Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

I watched it last night. Never watched an entire episode before. After that one, I watched another one. Why was a beautiful naked woman forced to walk through and entire town while the patrons yelled at her, threw things at her, and spit on her?

Every episode has naked women in it. That's reason enough to "like it".

What the recap. A religious sect has rule of the country. She sinned. She was punished. Basically, an excuse for nudity. I'm not complaining.

There is a lot of nakedness in the series, it seems. Now I know why you like it...

Page 3 weather forecast and landscape break. Sit back and relax for a minute.

An ominous cloudy dead still day at 70 degrees. No precipitation today but it's coming by late tomorrow.

I've had posts that hurt but damn that one hit me straight to the heart.

You do realize these photo breaks take time and thought. Plus this whole posting thing is a bit of a pain also. All with you and yours in mind. I could go get a frying pan or two to post up if that's more your bag.

You would be very comfortable. There already is a mini fridge and the sink is big enough to wash dogs, you might fit. It has a pull out faucet.

Ah Bootleg, I used to ride there...

I finally had time to get out for an afternooner today. Decided to stay close and climb Verdugo Mountain via La Tuna Canyon/Hostetter fire road. Climbed well, no breaks were taken until after I reached the top.

    2:01:08 ride time
    5.7 mph av speed
    29.3 mph max speed
    1960' elevation gain

Today's photo. This photo was taken at the same spot but pointed more along the coast. The top photo shows the beach. The bottom photo there is no no each anymore. The water level is up to the top of the rocks.

I don't have to answer to a skimming accusation when I'm talking to two of the worst skimmers the OC has seen since day one.

Today's weather was one for the books.

DJ remains (and probably forever will) an "e-friend" to me because he refuses to get involved in our OCC group activities. I cannot confirm that he is a real being (since I have never seen him in person) and therefore, he may very well be a sock.

The supposed picture of meeting between Katz and DJ was probably just a photoshop job.

That thread is as much and the latest I've hear on him. And no I never knew his last name. Hopefully he's alright. There are so many M.I.A from the old O.C. It's hard to keep track.

In biking news, drew wanted to go to the gas station for a snack so we headed out on a 48F ride with winds 10-20mph. You can tell this child grew up in Minnesota.

    LOL
Korn sorry to hear about your "little" rain yesterday.

I've got today and tomorrow off and today would have been a great day to ride but I've been sick for 3 days. A sore throat and my left gland on my neck has been killing me. So obviously some kind of infection going on. I knew a ride would just make it worse. Wise decision DJ, thanks.

So instead of sitting at home I took a drive up into the mountains. A nice somewhat cloudy day in the mid 50's when I left the lower elevation. It turned into the mid 40's the higher I went. Went 30 miles up the Big Thompson Canyon where it then dropped into the small tourist town of Estes Park. Usually crowded with tourists it's still the off season and not many people around. I drove through the town where it was nice and sunny and went further up. About 3 miles out of town it became overcast and it started snowing. I got to the gates that enters Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge Road. Trail Ridge road is the highest road in the lower 48. It goes above tree line up into the snow. Signs were saying that the Trail Ridge Road portion was still closed for the season. They usually don't open up until late May in ready for tourist season. I could have entered the park and drove straight up and above tree line until I came to the gate closure but I opted out of paying a daily pass fee of $20. WTF our screwed up government charges $20 for a day visit, even to locals, thanks Obama but no thanks. I've been up there plenty wasn't about to pay that.

As I U-turned and headed back down I came across a herd if Elk wandering through a cabin complex. I drove in to get some photos and as I was taking shots of some that were just 30' from my truck I started to pull forward to leave and just as I let off the brake and looked forward there was an Elk crossing in front of me. I hit the brakes just in time and the Elk was just 6" from my front number. I almost bruised his ribs or at the least pissed him off a bit.

I'm sitting in Starbucks in Estes Park right now surfing this site. I plan on hitting up my favorite mexican restaurant for lunch and then heading back down. Maybe some more photos on my return trip. But for now here's a few to ponder at.

Notice how skinny and scraggly they are having survived a harsh winter. They are now feeding and gaining weight as rapidly as possible. Their antelers having been dropped [shed] in the fall start re-growing in the spring. Covered in velvet they grow rapidly and by June that larger bull will have a full rack of possibly 6 points on one side. Ready for battle by October then they shed again and restart the cycle over with them growing bigger with each growth spurt.

Thanks, I've been relaxing in the town of Estes for an hour. Nice sunny blue skies with it snowing just 2-3 miles up the road at higher elevation. I told you it's crazy weather around here.

Which you can see in the second photo. That is just entering Estes Park and looking beyond the town further into the mountains it's snowing.

Hawg is telling me I need to buy a new bike to cope with my stressed out life. He suggests a trek ex 9.8. I'm thinking a fs Farley. Any votes?

While DJ sits back and shakes his head in rejection on the modern color schemes of bikes, I figured I would share that I got out for a ride again today. I finished my work day just 1/4 mile from the Cherry Canyon. So I went to work dressed in cycling garb and brought my bike, too. Done this a few times before.

Cherry Canyon is drying out. The hills are starting to go brown. Still an insane amount of overgrowth almost blocking out some of the trails, but most of the grasses on the hillsides are brown now. Bummer.

I decided to ride the ST trails backwards today. Never down that before. It's really hilly there, punchy climbs and descents. Had fun, never saw another biker and only two other hiker parties. The lizards were out in force and I saw at least two snakes prints. It was a tough ride because I usually do a 3 mile one way road ride from home to get a warm up. Today, I jumped onto the bike and went straight into climbing sections of trail and fire road that varied between 10%-20%. Brutal.

    Cherry Canyon:

    5.33 miles
    1:05:39 ride time
    4.9 mph av speed
    20.5 mph max speed
    1276' elevation gain
    581 calories

    Bike talk.

The inner bearing on my left XT pedal is clicking and there is a tiny bit of play on the shaft. I have heard this has been a bit of an issue with these. My XTR pedals have never clicked. I wonder if the bearings in it are different?

My KS LEV dropper has performed nicely since I got it back from the warranty dept. It has a considerable amount of wobble play in the shaft, though. I have heard that droppers have a tiny bit of play and that this is normal. Seems like it would only speed up the wearing of the seals to me.

Nice ride Hawg. It sucks that the hills are starting to brown already. My area hasn't even completely blooded yet. About 60% so far.

I do like some modern bike paint schemes. I like your orange one yet it's powder blue little sister, not so much.

My dropper has always had about a 1/4" of play side to side.

How can there not be. Your thigh pushes the seat over as you pedal. Without that play, there is friction created.

They should market that as a a feature.

Glad someone got out for a ride today. I thought about it, but passed due to mud.

If I inject a bunch of 10w40 into and around my pedal bearings, I can get the left one to do almost two complete free revolutions.

So I guess my idea for a new bike heyyall should consider got shot down?

Phat is in I guess. People are getting fatter and fatter so I guess bike tires should too? Instead of filling the tires on a tubeless fatty with Stan's use McDonalds french fry grease, it's fattening. The tires will get even fatter. WTF am I trying to say here?
