Earnhardt also ran the #8 car as well as other numbers, I guess you guy's want all those retired too. While Dale's passing was unfortunate, the number 3 belongs to R.C.R and did before Dale drove for the organization.

That's why so many people dislike Smoke, he is everything they want their effeminate metro sexual wanta be's to be, but they know deep down inside it will never be so.

This is what makes for viewers nirvana when you see/hear/read of drivers, racers of both 2&4 wheel with the desire & determination to rehab and join the forces for more.

I've gone a ton of times, but have had my own 2 seats since the early '90's. Sometimes I don't feel like going so I'll sell the tickets on StubHub. God-willing I'll keep buying them every year though.

It might take a new car to make that happen. How long until we see a Gen 7 car? I am of the opinion that the racing needs to be taken out of the engineers hands and put back on the track.

That's because they all are busy carrying Jimmie's water. Soon Smoke will be as well.

Whats the deal with the bright light pointed on the track under the rear bumper during practice? Some kind of laser to measure the ride height of the spoiler?

NASCAR allows the teams to equip the cars with all kinds of instruments and measuring devices, during testing sessions only. The light is part of that.
Each team, and each automotive manufacturer has large teams of engineers analyzing the telemetry at the track. Of course NASCAR can poach that information as well.

YEAh baby!!! i'm 4 pages late! so in short,

    - The #3: I love Dale Sr. and all that he has done before and after death. To me, I think it's about time it came back. I've mourned long enough for it to not affect me. For better or worse(?) like #10 it will might help with rating i guess.. to me Personally the #3 belongs to one man and one man alone. A man who established himself to be known as one of the greatest! So much so it took Boston 8.5 decades to defeat a mythical curse known as "Curse of the Bambino" after trading him and THAT is the one, the only, George "Babe" Ruth... but that's for the baseball threads! ( GO NYY! )
    - We'll just have to sit back and wait to see what Tony can do with his recovered leg
    - Danica, still is all show and no go
    - Eff YOU Letarte for screwing over Dale Jr.!!!! you piece of Sh!t !!
    - & Thegweed, You better post post pictures!!!!

now who's ready for some MTBR's NASCAR Fantasy 2014!!!!

There are dale sr fans and not so RCR choosing to make use of it again is his call.
-danica has proven herself just fine
-letarte seeking something diff for his life is his decision so respect it instead of blaming. dale jr didn't get screwed, doesn't matter anyway Jr doesn't have what it takes but that's nothing new.

What gossip? Are there changes? FWIW, I think the chase should be scrapped and the points ladder be restructured. Wins should be heavily weighted. No points for leading one lap, weight the points for whomever leads the most laps. Points for fastest lap during the race. DNF's need to have far less points, no points just for starting.

I like it, makes winning races important again. Still leaves the door open for multi-car teams to manipulate things though.

Sounds cool to me. In F1 the qualifying is often more fun to watch than the race. I doubt it will be like that with Nascar since qualifying position really doesn't matter for most tracks but it has to be more interesting than the snore fest that qualifying is now. Doesn't seem like most fans agree going by the comments I read.

The new Chase format isn't perfect but it looks better than it did. All in all, I wish they'd just scrap it. I'd also like to see the points restructured, like get rid of a point for leading a lap if it is under a caution flag, only award it for a green flag lap. Weighting points towards wins would be a good direction also, DNF's should be more punitive, as should running at the back.

It should be simple. The driver with the most wins at the end of the season is the champion. If a tie, a race off for 50 laps.

Is it just me or is the Nascar website a lame ass site?

Has anyone been able to find the 2014 TV schedules for all 3 series?

My cable provider dropped the Speed Channel... now it's just effing football.

So, now teams that get a win early in the season can run at the back for the remainder of the first half. They secured their spot, no use in tearing up equipment. Sponsors just want the car to get television time, doesn't really matter if they run up front or in the back. Teams can still dump a race to ensure wins for win less team mates, MWR got sanctioned for it last season but apparently its okay this season. A win less driver could still win a championship on points, so that throws out the theory of making it about wins. When it gets to the elimination races, what is NASCAR going to do when a back running team mate wrecks someone that is in contention? I have come to the conclusion that NASCAR would rather the fans stay home, it would cut down on the overhead that negatively affects their bottom line.

Thats what I was wondering about. How many different winners does NASCAR have every year? Usually around 10? So get your win, then sit in back and cruise. NASCAR could potentially have 26 different winners in the regular season, but thats unlikely. There will still be some points racing by those that have a win. They can't avoid that.
And the Championship format has some loop holes in it. Drivers don't really have to win every week. Shoot, they don't even have to win at all. They could have a team mate take out their closest competitor, then just cruise the rest of the race.

I don't know, I kind of like the idea. It means a lot of the smaller teams will try crazy things to pull off a win. I really doubt you will see the big teams sand bagging after they get a win anyway, sponsors won't like that. I also don't really have a problem with team strategy as long as you aren't wrecking somebody or yourself to help out those teammates.

You can be certain there is a complete marketing scheme that goes along with this, NASCAR admits it took 3 years to put this together. Breaking it up into shorter segments plays to the short attention spans that seem to be so prevalent today. Its no longer about racing, its about the money that the sponsors bring. he decline in sponsors and viewers over the last few years points to the irrelevancy of NASCAR in today's market, they have to do something to make it more attractive to the casual fan. I see many comments about this being a method to break the dominance of one organization, but I would suggest that it is more pointedly about getting a minority/woman driver/drivers into the chase. Flame suit on.

They would still have to be in the top 30 in points by race 26 to make the chase. This rule doesn't really bother me either. I don't like to see badly hurt drivers out there tooling around or having to start the race only to swap in another driver at the first caution.

AZ is correct about the diversity deal. Everybody is going that way. NASCAR has been pushing it for the last couple of years. Manika is just the first step. Bubba Wallace is coming up fast. He had a lot of success last year and I think we can expect to see him get a Cup seat within the next three years. Of course Wallace is about as light skinned a person can be and still claim to be black, but that's what it's going to take to gain acceptance by the hardcore southern rednecks. NASCAR understands that they have to sneak into multi-culturalism. They can't just throw a Public Enemy sponsored car on the track, driven by some guy named Tyrrel, and expect the NASCAR old guard to accept it.

It didn't take Todd Parrott long to get a crew chief role after being reinstated by NASCAR.

Tommy Baldwin Racing announced Monday that Parrott had been hired as the crew chief for its No. 36 car. Parrott was reinstated by NASCAR in early January after completing the Road to Recovery program.

Parrott was the crew chief for Aric Almirola at Richard Pettty Motorsports when he was suspended by NASCAR for violating its substance abuse policy in October. In December, Trent Owens was hired as Almirola's crew chief for 2014.

TBR hasn't announced a driver for the No. 36. Michael Annett will drive the team's No. 7 car in 2014 and run for Rookie of the Year honors. Bono Manion will serve as Annett's crew chief. He was Jamie McMurray's crew chief in 2013.

Parrott was the crew chief for Dale Jarrett when Jarrett won the 1999 Sprint Cup Series title and has 31 career wins as a crew chief. Who could be his driver in 2014? The Sporting News' Bob Pockrass mentioned Reed Sorenson.

I have a ton of respect for what he built at Hendricks. All the success that is happening with the 48 team is because of what Evernham developed. Chad Knaus came up through the ranks working for Evernham.

Well, there is that too. He is a bit of a DB in his personal dealings. When he owned his race teams, he hooked up with a woman that was racing for him in the truck series named Erin Crocker. IIRC, he was married at the time and broke up his marriage to stay with Crocker. She wasn't very attractive, or good at racing. He did end up marrying Crocker in 2009.

However, I still think he is a brilliant tactician.

Danica is running the Nationwide race the day before, if she could pull off an out right win in either race, I would think that should quell any question whether she is legit or not.

    Ryan Newman

He's done it once before in 08. He is back in Childress equipment, which is what he was running the last time he won the 500. Considering what a toss up the restrictor plate races are, why not?

Question- will they race the car they ave been setting up and practicing with in prep for the 500 tonight or a back up?

I'd think they would race a back up and save the best car for the 500.

Most, if not all teams use different cars for the two races. Unlimited cars are considered to be "disposable".

Anybody know where to find streaming coverage of the race?
I don't want some crappy leader board. i can find that shit anywhere. Seems like Nascar keeps a tight wrap on coverage of events.
I have a laptop hooked up to a TV in my garage, and was hoping to stream the race while doing some bike maintenace.

Hambone made his move below the yellow line.

Is that a legit move in this race? Its not in a normal point race at a restrictor plate track. Ask Reagan Smith about what position he was scored in at Talledega a few years ago.

Pole qualifiers from last season, past Unlimited winners that tried to qualify last season are also eligible (Mark Martin, who opted out).

Starting the race in "race" trim probably trumps starting from the pole anyway, look how many cars come from the back to be in contention. On that note, Dillon in the number 3 starts from the pole next Sunday.

Hambone pulls out another win in a wild finish to race #2 of the duel's. #48 car ran out of fuel on the final lap triggering mayhem with one of Waltrip's cars barrel rolling, landing back on its wheels.

I truly hope I'm not the only one around here that caught the truck race tonight. Amazing finish. I really don't understand how they didn't have a huge wreck on the last couple of laps. Those trucks were all over the place. Totally insane!!! Ky Busch won by on 0.0017 seconds. We're talking inches!!!

No win situation for Danica in that race. If she wins she will get the 'you beat an old man' comments and if she loses she'll get the 'you got beat by an old man' comments.

I would decline that race if her.

As far as them racing each other. Petty has a hard time just talking. There's no way he can climb in one of these modern cars and run with Danika. It would be a very sad and pathetic end to a great career.
