    iOS 8

After a multihour install that included deleting over 4gigs of photos and videos, I'm running iOS 8.

    My initial impression? What's different

The keyboard and typing is different and maybe a touch better. I'm not finding much else that is different for a major revision. Am I missing something?

Loving the update, texting without swiping over to a different screen is nice. I like the Home menu change too, can contact recent texts/calls a bit faster. There's a few new useless non-removable apps but the 'Health' one seemed kinda cool to me.

I was excited about the health app. I'm not sure what I'll be able to feed into it. I tried to link my fitbit account, but that doesn't seem set up now.

The home change (double tap) is nice. As is the refreshed calendar fit and feel.

I haven't tried any widgets, but maybe that will change my impression too.

But, I'm still not seeing the biggest change in iOS history.

I'm not seeing anything ground breaking neither. the biggest things i see are better icloud access, and the getting ready for yosemite which isn't out yet. guess it will take some time and exploring to see how big this change is.

I haven't had tome to really play with it yet. I just know running the update through iTunes (So I wouldn't have to delete 4GB worth of stuff) caused my iPhone 5 and iPad to brick halfway through, so i had to run a wipe and restore on both. A small PITA, but both updated okay that way, so no harm no foul.

I'm just now exploring it after updating the iPad and iPhone . . . the one thing I found immediately, which is FINALLY available after how many years . . . the emergency health card.

In the Health App, there's a way to place an emergency "card" on the lock screen that can be accessed without unlocking the phone. There's an abundance of info that can be added and customized, and for us MTB'ers who ride alone, its essential.
Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!

How long did it take you guys to install iOS8? I'm on call for work this week and can't have my phone down for hours and hours. The update is downloaded, just waiting for the install.

On one phone it took about 45 min, first try, done. On another much newer phone it has taken a few hours to fail, 3 times, still not done.

Has anybody tried out the scale in the Health App?
Click on the Health App, place the phone on the ground and then step on it. The phone will then give you a weight reading.
    Pretty cool stuff.

I've opened the app but I haven't seen how to stream data into it.

My daughter upgraded her iphone 5c and said the only thing that got screwed up was the Instagram app. I think she declined the icloud drive thing.

Will this new ios8 work with my older cell phone. I know it's a bit dated but with all these apps something's got to work with it.

He suggested that I check my weight with the new health app by standing on my phone. Now that it's shattered, I can't see what is says.

    iOS 8

IOS 7 was definitely a bigger upgrade but 8 feels a little more refined to me. Maybe it's that it's paired with a faster phone - went from a 5 to a 6 yesterday - but I have no complaints, especially given that I didn't pay a dime for the iOS upgrade.

Maybe the best thing about the 6 is that the larger screen makes it easier to type without hitting all kinds of wrong keys. Autocorrect is a little better, too.

We are definitely getting to a point where the software upgrades will be more gradual. The advances will not be so radical. The near future will be more processor improvements, hardware improvements, etc.

My wife picked up a 6 yesterday. I was surprised how much I liked the larger screen. I guess I know what the android fans mean when they say welcome to 2012.

iOS 8 ain't too bad, had to adjust a ton of settings though. I highly doubt I'll get a 6 Plus, I want a phone I can put in my pocket. Will probably get the 6.

They also say that because the iphone 6 you can see what apps are using up your battery faster, like android could from the get go.

I think that is an iOS 8 feature not limited to the 6 since my 5 has it also after updating.

    iOS 8

I finally got around to installing iOS 8 a couple nights ago. I started it just before jumping into the shower. It was done when I got out. No issues for me. It did not reset my phone back to factory settings. Everything seems to be working properly.
Of course the next morning is when Apple came out and said don't install iOS 8.
