I'm not happy. Not one bit.

I'm going to miss this year's Bone Ride. Make your jokes, I know it sounds funny. I'm just not in shape to do a 156 mile road ride at race pace. Last year was cold and wet, the year before was perfect and tomorrow should be too. There should easily be 150-200 riders this year.

Is less than race pace an option? Could you finish at a slower pace? Stoker on a tandem? Drive the Sag Wagon? Find a way!

the 3rd and 4th groups will be rolling at about 25mph. Even if I rolled at 20 that's an 8 hour day in the saddle. I did 4 hours Saturday solo and I was dying after an hour. I'll just wait until next year.

I could ride the motorcycle but that'd be cheating.

Skinny wheeleed faggots...seriously, just joking (had a few to many beers today) ...these guys would waste me in a race. But uh...yeah, your a better man than me, 50 miles is about my limit on any ride/terrain. Kudo's to you and everyone.

I hear ya, it does give you another year to work on for next time though. Gotta look at the bright side. Maybe go out and man an aid station or something just to participate? Just a thought. At any rate, sorry you cant make it this year.

i need to get on my buddys road bike just to see... i did almost 25 miles on my hardtail and averaged about 12mph... cant imagine what it would take to average 20mph, let alone for 8+ hours. road riding just aint my thing, but good for you to even contemplate something like that- let alone getting involved and doing it.

I got up the courage to google "Bone Ride" and amazingly enough, it took me to the right spot. Looks fun.
It's not a race or even a real event by their own description, so maybe go 3/4 of the way down then turn around and let the fast guys chase you down. Then catch a wheel and hold on as long as you can, get dropped and wait for the next group, get dropped etc, etc, etc.

If it was a normal ride that would work. The spirit of this ride is to follow Schuler's original solo rides before he won the USPro Championship. It's a ride where if you didn't put it in your jersey or stop to get it, you'll have to do without. There's a 1 hour break for food at the turn around. Everyone picks a restaurant and eats and then gets back on the bike. Fluids are replenished by stopping at a PDQ or 7-11 type place or if one of the 3 follow vans stops it will have fluids. If you stop it's up to you to get back in to a group. The image of the back of the van was from two years ago when I stopped with a dozen others to refill our bottles. The driver of the van offered to motorpace us to the last group. We were only going 35 but that was fast enough for everyone but 4 of us to get dropped. We caught back up to the group and then one of us tried to bridge to the next group without a draft... and didn't make it.

It's not a race, but I've done easier races as a 2 and finished in the money.

I've got to go to Milwaukee to pick up some parts for our car so I'll catch up to them on their way in to Madison. Maybe I'll join them for lunch.

I've been riding solo or with the wife since getting the OK from the surgeon. So the short answer is "nope" I didn't do that ride. I might do the Ronsta Ramble on Monday. We'll see.

I did hop on the motorcycle yesterday. I had to pick up some suspension parts for my Audi so I followed the route and eventually found them. They'd been re-routed because of a train blocking the crossings for a few miles.

well, a "skinny wheeled f-word" as you call them, passed me easily on a steep road climb today, and he had about 35 years on me. (then again, i have a steel wide-tired bike, and its a challenge to even break 20mph on it). If being gay is what it takes to be a great road rider, i better jump on the clam-wagon.
