I wouldn't lift a finger since they haven't paid for the work yet..

A friend is a graphic designer and got this email today...

Cathy, could you please followup with the client on that last project? We've disabled your email account that has all of the correspondence, and deleted all of the project files, including the backup, including the extra backup on the server that you made after you recovered and rebuilt all of the files after the last time that we deleted them. Yeah, and when will you have that done?
her comment to me was "How un-!@#$%^&*-professional."

Why do they keep deleting her account and files?

She's an independent contractor. They had given her a company email so they could oversee the project. Who knows why they "deleted" it. I suspect they have bigger issues than the loss of the data for that project.

I was in a situation trying to order custom decals online (just the "richter 8.0 top tube decals only), they guy wouldnt do the work first, wanted money first, so I send him the money, I gave him a couple emails with very, very specific color and spelling instructions, then it took a month wait and finally another email asking where my decals were and why I hadnt gotten them yet and waited a couple more weeks, he got the color right, but mis-spelled it, after several more, (another month wait) emails (including a reminder email of why my decals were taking so long the second time) ...they finally make it right, they send the complete decal set - woohooo - IN THE WRONG COLOR (not woohooo) - (more like) WTF.

Approx 3-4 months of dealing with this crap, in the end, no "richter 8.0 decal (in blue and white - color I orderd) and I'm out 20$.

NEVER EVER AGAIN - show me the decals, then, you get my money.

You can see the mis-spelled decals on the left, and the wrong color set in yellow on the right.

I've known too many folks doing contract work who started work before getting paid and then finished the work, only to still not get paid.

My father did some before I was born...and he still hasn't been paid for it. It was for a guy he didn't want to have anything to do with after the job, which is why he never pushed the issue.

A friend's parents went to court over a big unpaid contract that they ended up getting. And that was many years down the road.

Unfortunately, too many potential clients are deadbeats to at least not requite a 50% deposit at minimum.

easy - contact the client directly and do it for them...

i've had to do it before.

any contract between them and her is void since they never paid.
