    Go Fund Me question

So, we've come to that inevitable point in our life when our oldest is graduating and we have no funds for sending her to college. Yep, I know. We've failed. Anyway, we're admitting our defeat and doing some crowd funding to get her into CC. Is it frowned upon to post this here? Just checking. If so, this post can be deleted.

My brother made his three kids get some student loans...he felt they should have some skin in the game so to speak.

Do people really start go fund me's to get their kids into college? If so there must be millions of them...could be some interesting reading.

    Are there scholarships for CC?

There's always the National Guard, don't think tuition without some other circumstance is really the point behind a GFM page.

CC is pretty cheap she should be able to work and make money and still live in Mom and Dad's house for a few years right?

    Soo what about the youngest?

^^^ this. Between her working and kicking in and you and your wife cutting back to free up some funds, hopefully you can afford it. My parent's paid 100% for my college but I kind of think I would have been more focused on the classes than the beer and girls if I had paid at least a little of it. There are all kinds of scholarships as well, not just academic. You probably won't get anywhere close to 100% funding from these scholarships but every bit helps.
This post is a natural product. Variances in spelling & grammar should be appreciated as part of its character & beauty.

Do the majority of GFM pages actually "make" more than a few days wages, if that?

Yep. After I saw this I went right to the gofundme website, there's tons of tuition gofundme's on there.

It could be something to do if you're bored: read the stories then guess if they're true or not.

Back to the OP, I know the struggle is real, our daughter is starting college in August, you practically can't even say the school's name without being charged a fee.

We made our daughter make a database of all the scholarhips available, when she applied, what she had to do to be considered etc, and give us an update once a week. Your daughter should also be eligible for some need-based aid (ours wasn't which surprised the hell out of us). One other thing...a lot of employers will pay tuition as long as you are working toward a degree that you can use at the employer.

Thanks for the comments. Our daughter will have to take out school loans when she transfers. There is no way we can afford to pay for that. My immediate concern is paying for community college for the next two years. My wife has had to get two dental implants recently to the tune of $8k and I need $2k to have two old crowns re-done. My daughter is also going to need a cheap used car and insurance. So you can see how this is all piling up.

Get on the Dave Ramsey plan. Beans and rice, no cable, no eating out. Start a budget and stick to it.
It works. It's not easy, but neither is paying off years of loans.

I'm going back to school, right now, on a GoFundMe program called "The Post-9/11 GI Bill".

It's this crazy thing where you get 36 months of college plus a healthy stipend every month.

Amen to that brother. 5 degrees in 33 years all paid for in exchange for service rendered.

Yep. Got SLRP for undergrad. Post 9-11 for my MS, and both my wife and I will be taking Wilderness First Responder next summer. I'll be taking some online certificate courses as well.

My wife (who has PhD and JD) might be taking an advanced yoga instructor class, too.

We combined that plan with sending half of every promotion raise in the bank (Get a raise related to a promotion, 1/2 to the bank forever). Cost of living increases go to the checking account.

    Ok reading this

"She needs a car and insurance"

    She's going to college

Why doesn't she have a job? Why hasn't she had one since she was 14-16 (depends on the state, Midwest you can do ag type work at 14)? The "wealthiest" kids I went to school with were out in the fields working along side me during the summer from 14-16 till we could get real part time jobs.

She could have been working the last 3 yrs paying for a car, insurance and saving for college.

Your daughter will never succeed at life if you hand her everything. Make her get her butt to work like the rest of us.

Trying to get financial aid is almost impossible if you and your wife make above minimum wage. Scholarships and student loans are about it.

Also use community college, it's cheap for residents and if she does well she could get scholarships/tuition reimbursement (which most companies make you go through hell for them to pay a penny, it's a joke really) much more easily if her major is one that is useful .
