Ever get weird flashbacks after playing video games?

I recently purchased a new computer that included a free car racing video game: Asphalt 8: Airborne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I played that game about 10 hours yesterday. Had some weird dreams about it last night, and now I'm still getting weird flashbacks. When I look at words on my computer screen, it seems like they are moving. Now instead of reading the words, my brain is trying to imagine a way to drive through them.

I'm taking a break from that game today.

I'm not worried about it. It's just strange.

I get weird flashbacks of Asteroids and Pacman from the early eighties. Sometimes I feel like I'm hurling through space and pieces of broken planets are coming at me from all directions. All I can do his fire rockets at them as fast as my fingers can push the button. Other times I'm trapped in a maze and I'm being chased by a yellow mouth like creature who wants to eat me. Every corridor I turn down is a dead end or some other monster wants me.

I usually wake up right at the point where I'm being eaten or slammed into by a rock. So I'm not sure if this is normal after so many years and if I
should report it to the government. Its possible they're watching us VIA these games or its an alien government cover-up.

Furball, I'm a little worried that you spent 10 hrs playing a video game.

That was the one game I loved and excelled at. I was beside myself when they came out with Asteroids II and the first origial one was hard to find. The second version #II wasn't as fun and as hard. I liked it but being that I became so good on the original version the second one wasn't as exciting. Never since has a video game excited me like the first original Asteroids game.

Stare at anything long enough and it burns patterns into your brain. After a long surf session, when i close my eyes i see waves rolling in for a couple hours.

I remember when doom first came out it was jacking people up who played it for long periods. The first person bobbing was making people have an odd "sea sick" effect AFTER they were done playing.

Many years ago a friend/co-worker crashed at my house since we both had to be a work early next morning. We drank some beers and played racing games, most of the time wrecking each other into the barriers.

On the drive in the next morning I almost wrecked him for real. I caught myself just as I was about to run my car into the side of his

You need to see a Dr or your a troll. Not saying you are a troll just saying you need to see the Dr if your not.

No one on this site is experiencing exactly what you are.

    Good luck with that!

OK buster, just how do you know that nobody else is experiencing these symptoms? If I stared at a screen for 10 hrs it would probably give me some strange sensations.

No flashbacks from video games but I do get them (from time to time) from certain things I experimented with in my youth.

I regularly pull long porn sessions with no ill effects. Maybe a little sore in spots but no big deal.

However my head would be in mortal pain after 10 hrs of video games.

Didn't know you could measure credibility simply from the number of posts.

My first post would be a decent indicator of why I joined... Go ahead and read it if you have nothing better to do.

This isn't the first forum I every joined and I have read it for years. Didn't feel tHe need to join until I started riding.

Lookup the definition of flashback "busta" cus either the OP has the definition wrong, he is lying, or he needs to seek medical advice.

This isn't a forum dedicated to servicemen, paramedics, and the like.

I highly doubt anyone on this site has suffered true flashbacks from video games alone (especially a rather short term amount of use).

If he is suffering from the medical /psychological definition of flashbacks he does truly need to see a Dr.

Current medications, brain injury, prior trauma, and so much else could be suspect.

See a professional about this as normal healthy people DO NOT experience "real" flashbacks. When I say "real" I mean anything worth mentioning. As during a real flashback the person typically doesn't know they are having a flashback (edit: until after the event).

Obviously this could cause a car accident among other things.

    Good day

And if the OP is experiencing real flashbacks please do not take this lightly and joke about it with others.

Have it diagnosed... Because if you have not experienced the leading causes of flashbacks then you may have an unknown brain injury (cancer or head trauma) or an issue with a medication or a need for one.

There is not a complete understanding of flashbacks in the medical field so expect some trial and error type diagnosing to happen.

Now you just settle down there buckaroo. First of all the OP is a regular around here and so he started a thread that he knew would get the response that its getting, which is the usual silliness. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess the OP doesn't have a medical degree and so yes it would seem as though he used the term "flashback" inappropriately. But so what, who cares? He seems to be describing mild visual hallucinations or distortions.

I'm pretty sure if I stared at a video screen for 10 hrs I would probably experience similar symptoms myself.

No kidding, if he's having real symptoms he must go in and get it looked at. But that's not the case here. He's fine.

And if the OP is experiencing real flashbacks please do not take this lightly and joke about it with others.
Again, this is the OC, he knows what the deal is.

Alright so my wiseass comment about post count stems from a huge problem this site has had mostly this past year. We have had issues with users having multiple accounts using different user names. Which are referred to as sock puppets as a slang term around here. The people that have done this use different personalities per account to cause fights within the forums. When someone new to the site comes in and immediately gets confrontational some of us jump to conclusions that its a sock account because of the low post count. That's what I did with you and I apologize for jumping to that conclusion.

As far as the OP having real flashbacks I doubt that's the actual case. This forum is 95% joking and 5% serious. I may be wrong about the OP so ill let him get back with you on it. But my experience with the OP is he was joking and also we probably wont hear back from him for quite awhile. He tends to show up once in awhile briefly and then disappear for quite awhile.

    Did the break help?

When I first started playing COD:BO2 I felt strange afterward for a chunk of time; hyper and jacked up. I can only handle it for maybe 30-45 minutes before I need to get off the game.

I can relate OP. During the cold dark winter months I enjoy playing Call of Duty with my little brother online. Sometimes we can spend 8-10hrs on a Saturday playing and chatting. After a long session online my dreams are extremely vivid. Close your eyes and you feel like your still running around in the game.

I remember that! I always felt nauseous playing Doom, it was a horrible game. I don't think I've played a computer game since, except the odd short go on the Play Station or Wii with the kids.

    Good job!

Thanks for all the replies and concern.

I checked the definition of flashback. That's not exactly what I was feeling, but I can't find any more accurate word.

Flashback (psychology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term is used particularly when the memory is recalled involuntarily, and/or when it is so intense that the person "relives" the experience, unable to fully recognize it as memory and not something that is happening in "real time".

I don't think I need to see a doctor. I can tell these were just memories and not real. I think BigRingGrinder described it best here.

Ever since my son got COD:BO2, I've gotten more and more hooked. I don't play live though because I get schooled. My son would be on it for hours if we didn't cut him off.
