    Eric Olthwaite, Ripping Yarns

If Eric had an account on mtbr, he'd be talking about modern geometry and trail design instead of shovels and weather patterns.

Clicked on this youtube suggested video, and could not stop watching. A comedy about a bore, yet it works thanks to witty dialog. Every character is tediously unaware of their one dimensionality, like the lady who is always doing her laundry and always yells at her daughter to have a fling, or the taxi driver who is so singularly focused on following stupid directions. Reminds me of the office scene in Joe versus the Volcano. "I know he can get the job, but can he do the job". Or the whole of The Jerk.

Now I don't feel so bad about constantly bitching about cows crapping and destroying trails. Hey I know it's a boring topic... I'm just echoing the post modern comedic subversion as laid down by the masters.

Some of you won't get it.

"black puddin's very black today mother!... even the white bits are black!"

Classic! If you are OK with the Yorkshire accent, it's brilliant I love Ripping Yarns. A total take down of British Imperial culture

Tomkinsons Schooldays is another great episode... having been at one of those establishments myself back in the day, I can tell you very little changed in the 50 years between 1913 and 1963.
"He was brought down by the school leopard before he got too far!"...

I downloaded all nine episodes from two seasons for some future binge, when the power's out or on a long flight.

I'm on a flight to Italy later today, so that seems like a great idea!
