Yes, awesome! Very touching. I want that dog...
Net wurker, surely you've read Dean Koontz's "Watchers" judging by your avatar?

I just finished it again after many years, what a great book, renewed my appreciation of dogs in general.

That's cool stuff. Its amazing how therapeutic a dog's love and attention can be. Along those same lines I think hospital therapy dogs can make a big difference in a patient's recovery.

I taught Lamar to take a dump only at home. It took a few weeks when he was a pup but he got it down. I hate dogsh*t that ppl leave on grass & walkway areas. Thats one of the big reasons ppl hate dogs. Its not the dog's fault its the owner. Those guys who don't clean up after their dogs are the kind of ppl who get double merch when they order something and just keep it.

After we go somewhere, this dude takes a long drink of water and goes and takes a dump in the backyard. He's like Steph Curry and the % of missed 3 pointers. He's prob took a dump twice outside of the home during walks and visits since I got him.

Golden retrievers are not so easy to train to poop at home. They have strong den instincts so they prefer to poop away from their living space.

The downside is they live long enough to truly be a meaningful part of your life but not long enough that you get to share a lifetime with them.

But, dogs are in our family. When I grew up, dogs were in the backyard.

Me also, they were farm dogs so always out side chasing chickens and other dogs that wondered onto the property.... reminds me we had a English Shepard dog that would bite onto the end of one of our "unrideable, untrained horses tail ans swing, until one day the hose performed a well timmed KICK and the dog went FLYING. Didn't do that anymore!! hahah Pepper was his name.. damn that was a life time ago..

And I can't tell how old that dog is, but it looks fairly young, so kudos to whomever taught it that trick. Quite the little character.

This dog was so abused it doesn't feel the touch of love. He comes around stay with it. Bastards that abused the little guy.

Yeah, I've seen that one before.

It's a shame that stories like these are the exception, rather than the norm for these poor dogs.

Yeah, when I was watching a movie our little dog Louie (6 lbs little) was sitting with me. He was giving me this "dog love" look the way he was just looking up at me. I was smiling at him and rubbing the fur on his neck with my finger. He just looked so content. He's such a sweet little guy.

Mans best friend. All they require is some returned love. Heck they don't even require that, they will dish out the love to us non stop. It sure helps to love them back though.

Louie, looks like a happy little guy.

I sure play with him. I get him running around and barking. When I get on all fours myself he jumps on my back. Here's a little video of him doing that on my girlfriend's daughter:
We give him lots of love and attention. He's just a little child. He sleeps in the bed with us too.

    Dogs are awesome!

When back home, my dad gave me a stack of pictures. In the stack were some of my dogs growing up. I didn't have a scanner handy, so I had to resort to the photo-of-a-photo technique.

This is trixie. She was with me through middle and high school and was my dog. She couldn't go to college with me, and she died during my freshman year. She reminded me daily that dogs bite.

The Dalmatian is Lady. I don't remember the neighbor's dog. Lady reminded me that some dogs could bite hard. We had to give her away after she bite a neighbor. She grew deaf and was very snappy.

My sister has two dogs. One is a Black Lab, Jett and the other a German Shepard mix, Zata. The Lab is 12 years old and the Shepard 5. They are buddies and inseparable. She also has 3 children. A 20 year old girl and a set of 16 year old twins, boy and a girl. Yesterday they were forced to put Jett the 12 year old Black Lab down. He has had a tumor and has just been going downhill for about a year. A very tough situation in the family. They all got to say by at the vet and I'm sure the kids will be fine. It's the Shepard I'm worried about. He grew up knowing Jett and they have spent every minute together since he was a puppy.

It can be tough on them. My last pair of dogs were siblings. Rusty died and Sami really went into a state of depression. She lost that happy dog feel for a while but regained it just before she died. They acted like they shared a brain for 12 years.

Thanks all! And yeah she's very well loved and can go from a beautiful prissy Golden to a dirty mangy mutt in about 3 seconds lol she still gets around pretty good for being 14.

Great shots Heyyall, Folly is missed I'm sure. But Lucy filled the gap nicely.

Eugene, Aspen is getting up in age and I don't need to tell you this but spend as much time spoiling her as possible. My little buddy Bandit made it to 15.5 years. He just passed a year ago suddenly and unexpected.

Love and miss that little guy.

Aspen reminded me a lot of Folly. Finely was a riot. I hadn't even thought about trying to train a dog to do that kind of stuff. There's definitely potential.

I need to go dig through the archives and see if I have any videos with Folly.

Bandit looked like quite the character! Yep Aspen is spoiled for sure, we adopted her from a really strict owner when she was 8, and she's been loving life ever since. SHe's learned how to beg, sleep on the bed and couch, and popcorn she doesn't know how she lived before popcorn!

I agree so I shall post in both with every reply.

    No worries Chuck.

Here's my late Mr. Bandit waiting for me as I sat in a Mexican Cantina having lunch. We were so connected it didn't matter how many tourists and dogs [major tourist town in the mountains] walked by he had to have me in his sights. He passed away a little over a year ago at 15.5 years old as most of you know. My little buddy is seriously missed.

Half Doberman and half Border Collie. Traits of both breeds of intelligence and loyalty.

A sweetheart to all he let all passers by pet him and was friendly with all dogs. Yet if another dog turned on him he took care of business. Kicked ass on 4 coyotes one time at age 9. Scariest moment followed by the proudest moment for me, and him.

Followed me everywhere off leash. He went on many a mtb ride with me off leash. Other riders or trail users were greeted with a smile and he stepped off trail to let them by. Many an encounter with other dogs off leash with hikers. Most of which were dragging their owner down trail barking and growling at Bandit. Bandit ignored them and stayed out of reach of their leash. Many of the owners complemented me on his behavior and asked how I trained him. I responded I didn't it's in his intelligence. I came into his life when he was 3 years old. Many daily frisbee and tennis ball bonding turned into me finally taking him out riding with me. It was in 2006 and he was 6 years old by that time.

He took to it immediately off leash. No training necessary, all his traits were already there. He respected all other trail users and let them do their thing as did we. He lead the way about 20' in front of me never wandering off the single track. If I needed some speed to get up a rocky climb or down one i just said "watch out buddy" and he would always trot off to the right as I passed by on the left. He then would soon be on my back wheel and I'd give him the same respect and pull off to the right and give him the command to pass.

Best friend anyone could ask for. And if I was rich I would have had his DNA taken and cloned.

14.5 years old in this photo.

    Dogs are awesome!-image.jpg

And here at age 10 at Lake Hodges, San Diego. We already rode / ran 4 miles and I pulled over to give him a break. The lake close by he went for a quick drink. I then tried to get this photo. He normally sits and stays on command but man he was wound up and raring to go. It took all I had to get him to hold still. Whining as if to say "come on dad, let's go".

LOL as soon as this photo was clicked we were off.

Maybe its time for another pooch, DJ---you live in Colorado so a Border Collie or another BC mix will be nice. I'm too old to have a Border, no way I could keep up with 'em. (I'm actually a CAT person)

Lamar gets tired thinking about running. Here he is waiting to go to StarBucks

Lamar looks like a happy pooch. Bandit wasn't high strung like a full bred Border Collie. Just the right amount of energy to keep you on your toes when he was younger.

    My silly Shih Tzu

Is there any chance that my Shih Tzu could have killed a grey squirrel? found one half dead in the yard. Probably something else happened? The reason I ask is he tore out of the house and almost just now caught one.

    Hana and my dad

and her sister Ginger in her typical sleeping position. nothing like a giant speed bump in the hallway at 2 am. she was 185ish lbs.

I have a 8 year old hound/pointer mix. Sweet as can be but mischievous as hell. I was out of town last week and she figured out how to open the fridge. . . . damn near cleared the whole thing out. Amazingly she didn't get that sick, just a mild upset stomach. A few days ago I came home and she was sleeping on the couch with a grocery bag (one of the fabric reusable ones) wrapped around her neck and one of her legs caught in it like a sling. Would not trade her for the world!

Neither did we!!! She was a rescue and grew longer instead of taller but that's what the DNA test said. We're slowly working her into a trail dog and she's doing awesome. Hoss is a purebred pit and she bites his ankles and chases him around the house until he gets fed up and tries to squish her by laying on her.

A cattle weiner, I imagine this is the first litter. He's a cool looking dog for sure. Street Doctor any strange stories of how that mix happened? Well I know how it happened physically, just wondering how..well you know what I mean.

So I just got to Guererro Negro, Mexico tonight with an hour of light left. This is where I got Reina a couple years ago wandering the streets as a scared little puppy. I didn't have so much luck today but I went to the dunes on the edge of town and saw a cute litter running around and I followed it, but then momma came out and barked. They are not too small, running all over the place, about 10-12 inches long. Really beautiful dogs. I had to give up for the night and got a motel room. I am hoping to get two, have a cage for my car. I have a big fishing net. My mom says I shouldn't take them from the mother but I say too bad, they don't have much of a life down here. The hard part will be avoiding getting attacked by the mother. Maybe I'll hire a local tomorrow to help me. Any advice?

Mark, have your helper distract the mother with a juicy steak as you move in for the loot.

    Why two?

Do you plan on keeping both?

I got 3, waiting for the vet to open. I can take em all back, no problem adopting out if needed. We'll keep 2 maybe

Here's Lola, or sometimes called LOL or LOLZ or Slowla. We got her due to "divorces suck" and the best place for her was with us, rather than the pound, so the kids could still see her once in a while. And as it turned out we may have needed her more than she needed us.

Sorry for your loss. Looks like Aspen lived an exceptionally good life.

Thanks guys, I've lost a few dogs before and it sucks. Mrs Jeep took it especially hard, they were best friends.

The new golden, Lola, is quite the goober and a cat food thief too! haha
