Does this make me an unpatriotic jerk-off?

Went out to a relatives house last night in the sticks for hamburgers and fireworks. We started about 7pm, ended all the noise making just before 11pm. The wife and I come home after cleaning up all the trash from the fireworks and make it into our house about 12:15am this morning. I finally get to sleep and im awakened at 1:30 by the sounds of explosions and debris hitting the windows on the back of my house. I walked out back and yelled "you guys know its almost 2am right? Knock it off". Only to get the response of "its 4th of july bro, f**k off". I let this go on for about another 20 minutes before i drove around the block to their house, and told the two people out front smoking a cig that if I heard one more firework I was calling the cops. They finally cut it out about 2:15am.

Context: Its illegal to shoot fireworks off inside city limits. My house is less than 100 feet from my neighbors. I had to be at work at 6:30am this morning and on roughly 3.5 hours of sleep im about to pass out at my desk.

Im all for shooting fireworks for 4th of july but for jesus tapdancing christs sake, do it at the appropriate times in the appropriate places.

Tell'em at 2 am it's now the 5th of July. There's nothing unpatriotic about wanting to get some sleep because you have to go into work the next day.

No, the cops would have been called after the 1st request to stop.

You did the right thing. Most towns and cities actually have noise ordinances that limit noise after 10pm.

Just saw that you're in OK. At first i thought you might have been in my neck of the woods (people were sending up illegal mortars in the middle of the city all night), but i guess there are dirtbags everywhere.

Shotgun in the air is more traditional in some circles. Try it next year if they're as loud.

I would have probably bricked their window and said next one hits the face if I hear one more god damned firework; and meant it. But I'm an unrelenting ******* that hates people.

On the 4th, I have a tolerance, even past any noise ordinance that may be in place, but only to a certain extent. In this case, yeah, 2am and crap hitting my house, that's way over the line. I don't see where you (OP) were out of line at all. Good on you for putting your foot down and stopping the non-sense.

Were they setting off fireworks at 2 am to celebrate America's independence and demonstrate their patiotism and sense of national pride? Recreating the "rocket's red glare" and all of that? If so, then yes, you were an unpatriotic jerk curbing their celebration.

If they were just using the 4th as an excuse to blow things up, then no, you were not unpatriotic in your actions.

Seems like more often than not, people use various holidays as an excuse to get way out of hand. Going to bed with fireworks exploding around the neighborhood for the last week, I feel like I've been living in a war zone ...

I'm starting to hate holidays. It's always something to buy, pay for, or put up with. The spirit is gone.

Wow, I thought this was a joke! It's real. Huck N Roll used this in holiday marketing last year and I thought it was a cool idea.

no way. absolutely not. I went to the city's show at around 9pm. Got home at about 10-ish, and my neighbors were finishing up their mortars and whatnot. They were done by 10:30. Everybody had a good time. No excuse to be blowing $hit up past midnight when people have to work the next day. And definitely not okay for that stuff to be hitting a neighbor's house at 2am. I would not have warned in that case. Explosives hit my house at that time of night, police are called instantly. If they were just being noisy, then yeah, a polite request to cut it out because some of us work for a living would have been warranted.

Me too, I completely ignored Christmas last year and spent the day in the woods on the bike instead - one of the best Dec. 25th I had in a long time.

My poor dogs had a horrible time last night. My big, old pit bull (Rocky) was so stressed out he was panting, biting a make shift fence I built until his gums started to bleed. My Dalmatian was also having it pretty rough.

I'm patriotic, but I think people just use the 4th of July as an excuse to "blow sh|t up", as opposed to remembering what the holiday actually stands for. Of course, all the houses making the most noise on the block with m100's and tons of illegal stuff - not one American flag in site. In fact, my house is the only one with one out.

Im putting my headers and exhaust on my camaro next weekend. I might have to idle over in front of their house about 3am and "turn around" in their driveway with the headers open.

I decided to walk our 15-month old pit mix up & over the hill to watch the San Diego Big Bay fireworks, partly to see how he'd react, but mainly to not leave him alone in the house. Last year some friends of ours had to put their dog down after it crashed through a window, in a panic during a nearby fireworks show.

Well, we were about 1 minute too late to see the entire 18 minute show compressed into 20 seconds.

SS i think that the debris hitting the house would have been enough to call the cops. But at the same time i like monzies idea of bricking his window and leaving no doubt that the brick in the other hand is meant for his head- especially after "its the 4th of july bro, fvck off".

make sure you warm the rubber really good in his driveway when you go turn around in it. i hear bleach helps.

seeings they were standing out the back of their house, i would have taken the opportunity to go about quietly setting the front of their house on fire, then you could have sat on your front porch, cracked a coldie and watched the drama unfold

    Post of the year!

Fireworks going off at 2am don't bother me much, but **** hitting the house, cars, landing in my yard, that's a whole different issue. Luckily my wife and I are one of 3 younger families on our street, so everyone is retired and usually in bed by 8, it stays real quiet.
