Do you cut your own hair?

A couple weeks ago I bought a Con Air Shaver at Target and used the #3
tip and shaved the sides of my head so now I have a mohawk.

First I was appalled to see how stupid I looked, now I am used to it
and my helmet fits better too. I had semi-long hair Justin Feeber-ish
and going to the hair cutters was costing me $30 (I'm a cheap ass mofo---
not really, but cheap when it comes to me, paying for others I am not)

Anyways are there any other "shavers" out there? At my age, I am surprised
I still have hair on the top of my head. Shave on. I think my next shaver will
be a Wahl, they seem more heavy duty.

I have a Wahl trimmer/ clipper with an assortment of attachments. I haven't paid for a haircut in about a year. The first couple self cuts were a little rough, but I got my technique down now so I get good results.

One pair of clippers, $20....free haircuts for life. If your significant other is decent, they'll know (or learn) how to help you cut your hair. I've been to the barber shop once in my entire life. Will not pay for a haircut.

$15 gets me a haircut, wash, hot towel and a 3-4 minute back massage from girls wearing imitation Hooters uniforms!

I don't trust myself (or my GF for that matter) to cut my hair.

I bought a set of clippers in college, and have been cutting my hair for almost 20 years now. I do it better than most of the people who want $20! I've saved thousands of dollars, and don't have to tip some ugly chick who is in a hurry to clip my hair short with no effort whatsoever so she can rush onto the next paying customer. The hair salon is NOT a strip club.

I have a wahl clipper set that has the big clippers for the main cut and then a small set of battery operated () clippers for trimming. I cut my own hair and let the wife trim my neck. I used to let her do the whole cut but found that I was better and faster () on my own and just let her handle the stuff I couldnt see.

Yup, I buzz my whole head with the #4 guard, and then wifey does around the edges, although in a pinch i have used a couple of mirrors and done it myself.

Yes - we have been doing this for many many years....

Walh and Robocut can produce better results than the local barbershop with practice.

    Why?
I live in a small town and got tired of the political BS and the WAIT. I can get a haircut as often as I want and in less time than I can drive down, let a lone, sit around waiting......

    FlowBee Question Guy-

We ended up with the Robocut instead and it works great with a little practice! - Use a shop vac for best results.

It's to hot for me to have any hair and ride in the summer, my wife likes it short, so I buzz it once a week or so. Pisses all my balding friends off. In the winter I let it grow till I look like a transient then pay for a hair cut.

I took lessons from jeffj on haircuts, bought a Wahl about 3 years ago for $22, and have been a buzzin cousin ever since. Glad I still have plenty of hair to cut.

3 on all 3 sides, 5 on the top, 4 to blend it in around the crown.

Me too. I've got a good barbershop around the corner from my office that does a really good job, cash only $20 with the tip. All the guys in there have been cutting men's hair for over 40 years.

Instead of going for the mohawk why not practice with tapering from a 0 on the sides up to a 2-4 on top? Been giving myself high and tights for years, it isn't that hard and I never have helmet head anymore.

I've cut my own hair with the clippers for probably about a decade. The wife gets the hairy tufts at the back of my neck, but otherwise I keep it simple - all one length, #4.

Been cutting my own hair for the past 10+ yrs, I can even do it left handed. (had to learn that after shoulder surgery) sometimes #4 on top 1or 2 on the sides, or #3 on top and a .5 on the sides making sure to blend in the transition.

    Short answer: no

For $10.50, I get to stick my hands into a pale of peanuts and have a snack, a hair cut, a shampoo + hot towel therapy, and a back massage. I know the economy sucks, but for ten bucks it is really just a fine splurge.

Man, I pay $20 twice a month and one day I had the same idea and tried to be frugal but failed and ended up shaving a 0 all the way around. I just may use this as motivation to try again......so I guess I better get used to my friend "0" again....

I pay $10 every 4-6 weeks, for a #3 back & sides and a scissor cut on top. I trim my sideburns a time or two before the next barber visit. My hair stopped growing fast many years ago, although it's thick.

I'm 33 and have been shaving my head myself since I was about 15. The only time I ever paid for a barber is when I had a mohawk and that's because I couldn't get good lines on my own. I found a pretty good barber that kept me in good shape.

Oh and for the original poster I've always used Wahl clippers and they last for ever. With as long as I've been shaving my head I should have some pro-level clippers by now but I haven't ponied up the money yet. Eventually I'll buy a pair of the Oster Classic 76.

Yes, Beard trimmer, Medium length for chin and top of the head, short length for chops and sides of the head, been trimming my own hair since highschool.

My wife (GF at the time) tried to give me one of those sexy sit on lap haircuts, but it turned out awefull, haha.

Haven't cut my hair in probably almost a decade. Dreads for six years. Before that, crust punk kid Mohawk from drunk punx. When I'd get tired of that shave all around from same drunx.

I've been shaving my head with a razor since 2000. I did it because I was tired of wearing beanie hats underneath my motorcycle helmet (helmet head) - so I did it more for function than form. Since then, I can't see myself growing out my hair, ever. Spending money on haircuts, gel, shampoos, conditioner, etc. Now, it's become my look with the tats and goatee. Does that make me a real man? Or do I need scars for that? I have scars... so I think I get a pass.

Anyway... I'll probably shave my head for the rest of my life.

I like regular 1950s clean-cut haircuts, yet I have the worse trouble with barbers that can't cut evenly. So about 10 years I decided that there was no need to pay for a bad haircut when I could get one for free. I invested in clippers and I've actually gotten pretty decent at cutting my own hair.
