Such an awesome movie for 8 yr olds... I think they actually built in the 1st shortcut in Mario Cart Nin64 on Wario's track based on the flip maneuver at the end of race in the film. Too close to be coincidence... I would buy one of those shirts for fund raising...

So, on related note. The Science Museum of Minnesota reprinted the purple sweatshirt with the brontosaurus skeleton that Dustin wears in Stranger Things 2. The gift shop typically makes about a mil per year on average. The shop made about 600K in a few days and that will go to support the museum and kids being blinded by science!

    That's F'in RAD.
I don't know why,... it's just MUSS easier to pedal than the other ones.

Rad: A slang term from the 1990ís adolescent California made up. It means everything the term Cool meant from the adolescents of the 1970ís.

Cool was replaced with Rad. Anyone over the age of 30 using the term Rad is a moron.

The movie came out in '86, so all the Cali kids claiming ownership would be lame wads. Also, I grew up in the late '80's into the '90's and even though I don't use the word I feel it is my right to do so.

so, whatever dude... Dude is slang for a monkey's butthole.

I'm 31, but I spent most of the day getting rad yesterday.

    Dude!
Iím 56 and it slips out on occasion. Yes you have the right to use Rad growing up in that time frame. Iím glad you donít. Iíll go edit my my timeline if you want. I was old enough when Rad came out that it sounded and was to me a very adolescent term so I never used it.

Rad was rad in '86, you can't argue that, but no need to change the date in the earlier post.

For the record, I'm 39 but will be 40 in a few months and I don't use the term rad unless I'm talking to my 4 soon to be 5 year old son about his "dancing". 'Scuse me while I go get Breakin' qued up on the Betamax.

70's and 80's in Central Ohio/midwest. We always had cool and tuff.

Tuff was for describing the looks of things: That is a tuff Camaro", or "Angie looks tuff in those jeans..."

Cool was just what it is.

For my group, "rad" was for Midwesterners trying to be West Coast surfer/skater dudes....but not actually "getting it".

I still use both cool and tuff...

So I looked these up in the Merriam-Webster Hipster Gibberish Dictionary

    Awesome = Rad = Cool
    Totally Awsome = Rad-dikulus = Way Cool
    Awesomely Total = Infinity + 1
Use it, use it, use it while you still have it.

I always assumed it was an abbreviation of radical and was definitely part of the local vernacular long before the movie came out. Only spode's thought the movie was rad in my circle.

I stopped wearing them roughly when they quit making them in the USA, but that wasn't the reason, they just didn't really have much heel padding back then and it was easy to get heel bruises which suck so I went to more "technically advanced" shoes with sorbathane heel inserts and the like.

For shure. We crush gnar all the time mountain biking. Which is a good thing, I think. Sometimes the gnar wins and you end up pitted which can get gnarly.

Chode is one of the levels of suckiness.

"that sucks donkey dick" was my go to on why it sucked.

I often find myself saying "thats sweet" often.

I don't think I have ever had to wait 4 to 6 weeks for anything. Even back in the day when kids said things were rad.

Four to six weeks was pretty standard fare in the Seventies, when ordering out of the back of a comic book with a coupon.

Items like X-ray glasses, or Sea Monkeys.

Ahh, the sweet, sweet giddiness of anticipation will never fully be savored by these younger generations. The joy of waiting four to six weeks for those x-ray glasses only to finally have the package arrive, tear it open in an adrenaline fueled rush of energy, only to discover it's a cheap piece of plastic with a piece of a feather embedded in the lens.

I do remember ordering a mail order skateboard once, either late seventies or early eighties. After about four weeks or so, I would get so excited when I heard the UPS truck a block away. Standing around hopefully, eagerly anticipating that this is the day when he finally stops in front of our house.

On-line tracking now-a-days takes some of the magic away.

Been there back in the day.

Edit: I had to think about that one. I remember I was 17 and still at home. I ordered a Porsche style fiberglass wale tail spoiler for my 72 Datsun 240 Z. On pins and needles waiting for the delivery to intercept it so my parents wouldnít catch on to the coin I was spending on this car. Every day hanging out at home waiting on this delivery. Finally I hear the UPS truck grinding up the dirt road mountain I lived on. I rush out to meet the driver just as my dad is coming home from work. Oops! That didnít go well.

Building the skatepark in my hometown, back in the early twothousands, the owner of Dreamland skagteparks was telling me how he was going to build a QP "Bigger than Hoffman's" at his house, to skate on. I laughed at him.

just before that some BMX geeks moved out of a place across the road from me and they gave me a stack of BMX mags, one of them had all the details of Hoffman's exploits in it. So I brough that mag to the jobsite the next day to show the owner of Dreamland exactly what he was attempting to bite off...

Needless to say, he does not have a QP "bigger than Hoffman's" at his house.

I remember when I moved to Philly in the early nineties I met some kids who used "decent" where I would have said "cool". But I guess it didn't really catch on, not sure where they got it from.
