not my picture but this was another thunderstorm that moved through our area yesterday. That is Galivan Peak, My house is just on the other side of it. Started a small fire on top of the mesa near my house.

Sometimes a still shot doesn’t do it justice in what your seeing.

This was last February out my back door.

not as pretty as some of the above, but this weekend we were building our new band tower (and in this case, massive lightning rod) on our new field, and a quick cold front moved in bringing this pretty roguh storm up quickly in an hour.

the clouds start moving in as we are setting in the top section

this is the reaction right after the first lightning strike...

looking northwest as I am driving the golf cart off the field...here it comes
    Clouds-9-1-19mnsn-1.jpg

looking south east just past the tower
    Clouds-9-1-19mnsn-2.jpg

in my car literally 5 minutes after the first pic was taken...60-70mph winds and rain that flooded the whole parking lot into a huge lake.

I love weather like this! It brought cool weather after a stretch of stoopid heat and humidity...it had been sunny when we started building. Around the area, thee were power outages, lots of uprooted trees and home damage

It's some scary stuff sometimes putting metal structures up outdoors like that! I have a long history of putting up outdoor events, and some of the stories of weather related issues are hair raising... even roof raising at times! Doing a Bon Jovi concert at Eastern Creek raceway near Sydney once, we got hit by a cyclone that came out of nowhere, and the roof of the stage was torn off and ended up 10 miles away! Many other scary moments in my time...

yeah, i have seen footage of a few concerts where the wind took the stage down...sometimes can't believe that they don't postpone, though I do realize there is TONS of money and man-hours put into the set up of those shows...but still...

here is a really cool S shaped cloud that was the leading edge of a little front that is moving in today as I headed to the trail. It went from horizon to horizon, but I could not find a decent place to get that perspective

    Clouds-cloud1.jpg

it was cool to see that definition of the front...

How do you take a good picture of these clouds??
Is there any specific settings ?

I have an iPhone 7 and my pictures are always not really impressive compared to the real clouds that I see...

Good shots, now you just have to convince her the fence is not her enemy. She can hike around it.

More of this rolled in today and probably dropped the temp 10 degrees once they got between the sun and me. Too bad it came after the last climb.

it was tough getting home in my little hyundai but not too bad. the desert drains well. we got about 3in of rain in that storm and fairly rare to get a tornado in that area. Arizona does get them from time to time.

    The purple sunsets are cool

Why have sunsets have become purple lately?

Yeah it's nice when there's water in it.

Speaking of, we're supposed to get some rain in our mountains and even all the way out to the coast. Hopefully I get some cloud shots on my dog walk in a few hours.

These two shots above and this one. Taken maybe a minute apart from the same vantage point. Look how fast the clouds changed.

These three shots taken from the same vantage point one minute apart from each other. The clouds came in and socked it in. A moment later they were gone. I took the first photo and was focusing for the second one when bam it was sucked in. Stood there for a minute and it cleared out instantly. Only to be socked in again. I had to time the photos and click when it was clear, amazing stuff at high altitude.

Thanks guys but I have to admit how I did it. I had my phone (IPhone 6s) set on video just waiting to capture the lightning. Then I went back and played the vid and paused it at the time of strike and screen shot the frame. Remember that for any action shot, especially mtn bike related

Thanks, it was yesterday evening heading west towards the mountains and I did an emergency stop for it. There’s a HUGE Cottonwood tree in the foreground. I would have liked to have included in the shot but due to a farmers fence I couldn’t get a spot far enough back to include it.

That’s one sweet red sunset cloud mixture.

That's an Bald Eagle in the clouds… we were waiting for our pork taco's at Jack's Roadside BBQ (Taco Tuesday) when a guy waiting in his truck, yelled out to his buddy in line to check out the Bald Eagle's, the one in the picture flew over my head, by the time I fiddle around with the password on my iPhone (three times) this is what I got.

^ Cool experience tmbrown, I missed that post.

Today at 8,000 FT. Colorado. It was 58° and clear blue skies. Not a cloud in the sky. I actually did a 360° circle at one point in awe. That was at 2pm. From 3 to 4pm the temp. suddenly dropped from close 60° to 34° and these clouds came rolling in over the mountains. Snow predicted tonight. Before that happened I headed back down to 5,000FT.

The sky was so amazing and changing by the minute from blue to....rolling clouds. I had to snap away. Not sure which ones are the best so I’ll just inundate you all with a group. All these photos were taken in a 15 minute time span.

^ Nice shot, and I live an hour north of Denver. Skies like that are not all that uncommon out here. The mountains and weather patterns can really enhance the skies.

    Thanks, I love Colorado sunsets.

This was taken during the Mount Washington Auto Road Hill climb in NH I did this summer. This is not me in the pic nor did I take it (I felt if I stopped I wouldn't start again), but I "stole" it from another rider(with permission). Cool perspective from above the clouds.

Another one from just north of Leadville during a hunting trip in September

Ghost orbs - ha! No one has yet explained the original "ghost orb" photo - taken completely in the dark. (Except for the camera flash, I might add).

BCJT I don't think they ghost orbs, I am pretty sure they are deer and even though they have white bums without the tail raised I can't confirm if they are white tail deer or not.

    See DJ, I do listen.

The real question BCJT is what camera where you using to get that much far background detail completely in the dark? That is pretty impressive

I can only imagine how awesome this was to see in person. We have had some amazing sunsets here lately. I’ve gotta get better at getting pics

Not really, if you had listened you would know that you “can tell” which species of deer it is with the tail down or up. Deer in photo are Mule Deer.

I posted this earlier in the thread but needs to be repeated. I was in awe filming this.

You can, I can't. They still look like Elk to me.

Oh and nice clouds although I must confess to being a little disappointed. With the word Lava in the title I was half expecting them to be flowing in the wind.

Ha, definitely not the former. I've always had trouble trying to post pics to this site & haven't had any luck since spring or so. Recently discovered if I download my own pics from my FB (even though they're already on my phone) they will load issue free. Those are just from the summer.

But here's some more gratuitous stuff while I'm at it.

    Lots of great pix, Whalenard.

My guess is that this site doesn't like the file size of your original photos but facebook takes them and then reduces the size. So downloading the pix from fb gives you the smaller files this site will accept. I always reduce my photos before uploading them (I have photoshop).
This post is a natural product. Variances in spelling & grammar should be appreciated as part of its character & beauty.

I timed this one perfectly. I took it about a 1.5 hours ago. The skies since have become completely white with clouds and not so visually rewarding.

Nice shot DJ, love the way the low cloud appears to be falling down into the gullies.

Radium, we've been getting them on and off for about a month depending on which way the wind is blowing. Not sure if this getting coverage over seas but we have been having a pretty bad fire season that started a good 2 months earlier than normal. I'm north of 50 and don't remember it ever being like this. At first it was just fires on the mid north coast so any winds out of the north blew the smoke down towards Sydney. Now though there are fires north south and west of us so unless it is an easterly wind blowing we are getting smoke. Sydney generally doesn't get easterlies at this time of year.

I don't remember the last blue sky day we had.

Thanks Emu. The photo doesn’t do it justice to what it really looked like. I saw it from several miles back and rushed to a point to capture it. By the time I got to a good spot for a photo some of the clouds had dispersed, still some hanging low in the mountain draws though. My main reason I rushed for the photo.
