Can you outrun a zombie on a bike?

So it's the end of the world, Mad Max and his crew have hoarded all the fuel, and zombies can move faster than the classic shuffle.

What bike would you want for the Apocalypse?

Would you go for a Walmart bike because parts would be super available? A versatile cargo bike? A single speed for ease of maintenance?

Which would be best, and why?

Not a Walmart bike that for sure. I want reliability, not something junky with easy to find parts.
I'm not sure I would have much use for the bike really. If I need to go somewhere I would take my truck. That way I could pack more firepower and be more protected.
Remember, zombie is a generic term for many things. Looters, rioters, revolutionaries, etc. Some of these might be shooting back at you. You are a sitting duck on a bike.

I read through all of them, and I didn't see which bike you would choose to ride if the end of the world was to happen...

What if a zombie is on a bike too? do you think they prefer a 9er? (doubt the kool-aide works on them though).

I'm pretty sure zombies only ride specialized.

To answer your question, I might be able to outrun a zombie on a bike. It might depend on what kind of bike the zombie is riding. It also might depend on what kind of shoes I'm wearing. If the zombie is on a 26"wheel MTB and I'm wearing running shoes it might be close. If the zombie is on a 29er and I'm wearing my Redwing work boots he'll easily catch me.

I'd prefer to be asked "Can I escape a zombie by riding a bicycle?"

And such is the answer to the question... Zombies can't ride bikes!

Like they say, you don't have to be on the fastest bike or be able to out bike a zombie, you just have to out bike your buddy.

We had a spin on that for guys that would come into the gun shop I worked at in college. They'd say they wanted a good sidearm because they were camping or hunting in grizzly country. I'd ask if they were going alone or with a group. If they were going alone I sold them a .44 or a .454 Casull since that was the biggest at the time.

If they were going with a group I'd try to sell them a .22

    They'd ask "why a .22?"

"because you don't want to be the slowest if a bear is chasing."

Twice I made the .22 sale.

What shoes one is wearing? Great, now I can see this spooling out. Do zombies prefer clipless or platforms? besides the whole 26" vs. 29er question.

Definitely platforms, zombies would never have the money for clipless shoes.

Singlespeed cross bike with durable tires. I would need gear racks front and back and a rifle rack placed somewhere.

This made me wonder if female zombies prefer flats or pumps. Do zombies wear sensible shoes or have they lost their minds?
