He took a spill, trying to avoid another cyclist. Reports said he got very nervous, when the other cyclist would not yield and he "wobbled" the bars violently, before taking a hard face/elbow plant. Looks like his Dec 14th concert will either see him singing from a wheelchair....or outright cancelled.

Rolling Stone could care less, what Bono rides. However, I've seen Tabloid photos of him riding a Budnitz titanium commuter and various cruisers.

Took me a considerable chunk of my evening to figure out why my wife's iPhone started playing U2 when plugged into her car, even as she never used it as an iPod. Turned out they pushed that damn album, and special effort required to clean it out.
    Fuсk you, U2.

At the speed he must have been going, judging from the "high-energy" type of his injuries, (around 25-30 mph) he is actually lucky. That's easily enough velocity to sustain a major cervical fracture/spinal chord trauma.

He coulda ended up like Superman.

I've never been in Central Park but if he's going so fast as to sustain those injuries after trying to avoid another cyclist he must have been going too fast for the situation (Bono's skill, width of path, curves, pedestrians and cyclists)?

Of course he was riding fast. Everyone rides (and walks) fast in NYC.

I doubt he has the skills. Wobbling bars, at speed is clearly a noobie panic response.

Listen, I'm just impressed that the guy rides a bike. Pity he didn't use his global fame to promote that instead of world piece and ending hunger but that as may be, it's still cool that he does it. Or used to.

    My favorite as well.

    The lyrics:

    BULLET THE BLUE SKY LYRICS
    U2
In the howling wind comes a stinging rain
    See it driving nails
Into the souls on the tree of pain
From the firefly, a red orange glow
    See the face of fear
Running scared in the valley below

    Bullet the blue sky
    Bullet the blue sky
    Bullet the blue
    Bullet the blue

In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum
    Jacob wrestled the angel
    And the angel was overcome
    You plant a demon seed
You raise a flower of fire
    See them burning crosses
See the flames higher and higher

    Bullet the blue sky
    Bullet the blue sky
    Bullet the blue
    Bullet the blue

This guy comes up to me
His face red like a rose on a thorn bush
Like all the colors of a royal flush
And he's peeling off those dollar bills
    Slapping them down
    One hundred, two hundred
And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts where the children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street
You take the staircase to the first floor
Turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into a saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan
    Outside is America
    Outside is America

Across the field you see the sky ripped open
See the rain through a gaping wound
Pounding on the women and children
    Who run
    Into the arms
    Of America

30 Years Ago: U2′s ‘Under A Blood Red Sky’ Red Rocks Show Takes Place

I was in Denver on the family vacation. My sister and I wanted to go, being from central Indiana where there were no concerts aside from arena bands, but my dad didn't let us. Of course he did want to see Red Rocks, and was pissed that it was not just open like when he lived there 20 or so years prior.

I haven't used iTunes in years so it doesn't bother me. I didn't like the way iTunes rail-roaded you into doing things Apple's way, which is kinda why some people are upset about being given a free U2 album. I mean sure, offer it as a free download for whoever wants it but it's typical of Apple to think that if they like something, everyone will want it.

So, is it crap? And why can't you just bin it?

I still think it's a nice gesture actually. I'm sure there are lots of kids out there who will be quite happy to get a free album from one of the worlds top bands. *****ing about it does seem rather grouchy don't you think? ;0)

I have not used iTunes ever, neither did my wife, but they still pushed that crap in. ********. I did not want it. It took my time to figure out how to eliminate that crap, as it would auto play when hooked to our van. They only issued a clean up tool later. It was not possible just to delete it.

It's crap and he is not welcome.
How did you get rid of it? It only shows up on my phone, not in my ITunes, so I can't delete it. I didn't want it, not a fan of U-2 or their pretendo save the earth crap.

Music app - artists. Swipe left on U2 and select delete.

It is remarkable how much you guys have your panties in a bind. The way you are talking it is like you think your opinion matters to U2, Apple or anyone else for that matter.

You missed a part of rock history my friend. An awesome show which will always be engraved in rock history with the recording of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" at Red Rocks for MTV.

It's funny how I had no idea who they were at the time and yet they went huge after that show.

After Bono's 'high-energy' crash, I'm more determined than ever to replace my current Giro Xen helmet with one that has the MIPS system on it.
    Maybe for Christmas.

Except IT DID NOT WORK WITH THAT DAMN THING. Apple made it undeletable, and had to publish a utility to rid your phone of U2. But only later. Super annoying in combination with hondalink autoplay. My wife though she was going nuts - with strange music starting to play in background, even during phone calls over bluetooth.

Wonder if that caused Bono to freak out and crash the bike, did he have earbuds on?

You didn't need a utility. You need to configure your phone to not automatically download purchases. We share our iTunes in the house. I don't want my kids music on my phone, so I don't have it downloaded.

The delete sequence I shared does indeed work and always has. Your link is how to remove the "purchase" from your account. That is a different matter.

Why the heck would I configure anything if I never purchase or download music ever? And I do know how to configure software.

No, that delete sequence did not work. It did not. Read Apples own linked support page. Why do you think it exists?

It sure has taken a turn for the sur-real.

So you're not the biggest fan U2 have ever had, I get that, we get that. But if just having one of their albums in your house makes you this angry might I tactfully suggest that they are not the ones with the biggest issue here? ;0)

It's the waves off them, that's what I heard. They go into your head through your ear and they make you angry. Or at least they can do. I've seen some people who just look vacant when talking on their mobile phone and I'm guessing that in their case the waves are passing straight through.

For sure... if you write U2 backwards, it is 2U: To You!!! This obviously means that their 'message' will be coming 'to you' by means of your iphone whether you like it or not... once infected, it will make a case of Ebola a walk in the park compared to this... I'll take demons infected with Ebola over their new record thanks...

He did but consumers had to go to his website to fetch the album whereas U2 is forcing it upon iPhone users. Given the earlier discussion I don't think its particularly difficult to get rid of, Axe's problems notwithstanding, but its an annoyance to be sure.

Ok, but he still gave it away. If I remember correctly it was also distributed as a CD free with newspapers.

I think it's a flawed strategy. People are likely to question why they should value the work if you don't.

    Apologies in advance:

The government is watching your e-mail and phone conversations: "That's ok. I don't break the law. Nothing for them to see. Keeps us safe."

Apple and U2 gave you a free album: "Apple can suck it. And $#%% U2 too. Bunch a save the planet do-gooders. I would take it to the streets, but lucky for me sounds like Bono's face already did."

For me, my wife and one son, nobody had the album pushed to their iPhone. It shows as a purchase in the account and you can download it locally by pushing the cloud icon. You can stream it from the cloud if you want to. I downloaded it for a trip and then deleted the content from my phone when I was done. It still shows up as a valid download if I want it...along with these fine selections that my kids have bought.
    Attachment 941662

I could rage on about being offended that I have a marshmallow laser unicorn song in my account (but not on my phone) or just turn off automatic downloads and delete them locally.

Now I did have one son that had the music pushed to his iPhone (the one that makes most purchases) but life went on.

As for people trying this promotion, it happens all the time. It is called also product placement and you can't watch tv without it. You can't check your mail without it. Anybody remember the Weezer that was given with Win 95?

You are correct Mr Pig, he gave it away with the Mail on Sunday back in 2007, it went 10 times Platinum in the UK and it's hanging on my wall here:

It does get a little disturbing some nights when I am all alone with him staring at me. We kept it in the closet for a long time, and the closet is now called the Prince closet... infected it is...

BBC News - Bono bike accident: 'I may never play guitar again'

Maybe he can just hire someone to play air guitar... in the meantime, should we chip in to buy him a new bike... a faster one?

Conspiracy alert: What if his hands/body was well insured in case of an accident. By having a career ending injury , perhaps he can retire early and live comfortably for years to come.

You can't change history and the best therapy is humor. I've had two serious accidents in the last year. A bad motorcycle crash and then a bad skiing crash. Between the two I lost out on 4 months of outdoor adventure. My motorcycle crash I launched a Harley off a cliff in the Colorado mountains. The bike ended up stuffed in a grove of aspen trees about 200' down. My sister and her husband and my brother and his GF were also on that ride. Several months later I attended my sisters surprise party at her house. As I walked into the kitchen I noticed a new picture hanging on the wall. Upon closer inspection I noticed a cut out photo of myself on that ride taped in a grove of aspens. I laughed so hard I about re-broke my ribs.
    LOL

    Great find Licious.

Here's the picture hanging on her wall.
