    Ball powdering

How many of you powder up before riding? I need to do this so as not to chaff, but I feel kinda silly with a white crotch on the front of my black chamois from the powder seeping through.

Men and women feel free to chime in on this one.

I find the shorts make a huge difference.

I have some pearl izumi's & quest, they keep everything where they need to be, no rubbing, bouncing, flopping around etc.

I put on my fox shorts the other day, man I hate those things. Inner liner is attached to the baggies, back rides low, & junk flops around. Even worse is those shorts were 2x $$ the other ones.

Powder? You must not sweat much when you ride. My body would turn powder into dough in about 20 minutes. Have you tried any of the many body lubes?

As Shark indicated, good quality shorts are vital, and the quality is not necessarily linked to the price.

Also, make sure both you and your shorts are clean before a ride. Shorts should always be clean (no using more than once), and the cleaner your body can be, the less it will be irritated by cycling friction.

I had the same experience with Fox shorts. Felt like a big 'ol loose, droopy diaper swangin' around down there.

this. I just threw up a little in my mouth thinking about it.

And this. I haven't found a need to use any of this stuff...but YMMV.

No powder, I use Noxzema or diaper ointment in the friction-prone areas.

Wow, just wow. No powder, no chamois cream either. Guess I have a hard calloused Ass. Get better bike shorts. I am a skinny little punk around the waist, so finding ones that fit properly was difficult, you want the shorts to be more tighty whitie or boxer brief feeling than letting the boys fly commando. Support is good.

That sounds about as appealing as pedalphile's ball-dough.

But yeah... no ball powdering here either.

okay, since there seem to be a number of powder fans, I'm gonna derail this from Nicole's ass-callus tangent and ask what's everyone's favorite brand?

I've used Paceline Chamois Butter since 2004 or so. Somewhere around 2007, I forgot it once and after about an hour of riding, I couldn't sit on the saddle. I do believe fat guys spend more time sitting than skinny people, so that may have something to do with it.
Worked at Trek/Fisher dealer 2008-2013. Only a little biased.

I like plain old J&J baby powder....probably because it's in my house anyways. Before tubeless I used it on tubes before install, and my BFF showed me the light as far as other uses!

I don't use powder but if I did it would be the Monkey Butt stuff. Just for the name and image. I am well aware that the marketing worked on me and it's funny so I'd support it.

    Stop it. Stop it now.

Reminds me of when I was a chef. Here in AZ they usually don't AC the cook line, just let the air from the restaurant cool it. So when I was working grill next the pizza oven at a place my thermometer in my pocket would often read 130-150F. F-ing hot. We would sweat like...well sweaty line cooks.

A lot of my cohorts would liberally apply corn starch...no kidding. It would absorb the sweat and let them not chafe. Of course they would end up with all sorts of skin infections etc, because if you have ever taken biology, agar the medium for breeding bacteria is corn starch gel, so they would be nasty ass...literally.

Since this time i have just suffered through, relied on my natural sasquatch appearance and rarely if ever wear anything more than spandex shorts. Everything else is just too hot so sweat is the name of the game.

there I contributed to the OMGTMI thread.
