Woohoo, it's chilly over here! BRRR.

On a bike riding related note, I meant to get out again today after work, but I had too many things to take care of. Tomorrow, for sure!

So heyyall, are most of your videos from shot from handlebar mounted cameras? A lot of times I find that video shot from the bars makes me kinda dizzy but I don't recall that being the case with your vids.

I have a chesty mount but it doesn't work with winter clothes that well, so yes, most are bar mounted. I cut out the vomit inducing twitches when I edit. They are also stable because I am slow.

I am still wondering to this day why these action cameras we are using to record our rides do not have image stabilization???

    LOL

Editing is helpful too. I'm thinking about giving a handlebar mounted camera another try so I'll pay more attention to editing out the twitchy parts.

No kidding, seems logical to me.

What brands have stabilization? Anybody know?

None that I know of. But all of my handheld mini cams from yesteryear had it. And, it works!

Actually with 4k becoming the norm, stabilization from a software perspective may be better since you can internally crop the frames to create a stable movie.

You can see how far I've come with my bar mounts:

First video ever made -- it was the demon child known as the "Blair Witch Biking"

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-mMQf918dMI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A recent video that is smoother but still quite twitchy

I was on tapatalk earlier and couldn't look up the mod to reach out and say hey. Thanks for stopping by and you are more than welcome to participate. I only know of two other MTBR members from Rochester and they aren't that active. It'll be nice (for me) to meet some more local people.

Also, Despite the reputation that you may have heard, we are all normal people that do in fact love bikes and riding.

The newer video is obviously much much better. So is that just a function of editing out the twitchy parts?

I really like the commentary btw.

LOL, I was wondering if anybody was going to bring that up. I like the Nevegals for their stickiness on all those slick rocks and roots up in the PNW. Now that I'm in Utah I'm trying to get a read on what works around here.

Those gimbal mounts are just "slightly" bulky.

I actually think a little bit of bouncy-bouncy adds to the effect and helps one feel as though he/she is there riding, not just watching. So, I am interested in some reduction of the shakiness but not a total elimination of it unless I am going for an Oscar or a Golden Globe for "Best Production".

For sure, the only problem is that the FOV gets narrowed. Here's a quick comparison video between the Sony Action Cam and a GoPro H2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2PClN-X6po

In comparison between the two cameras in the video, the FOV difference is minimal. I suppose on close ups, it's more noticeable?

I really didn't find a difference but might have favored 2 simply based on the color tone.

I started watching without sound on my phone and was wondering how in the world that person was climbing so fast.

I totally hear ya Hawg. My core problem is that once I'm here I think I'm in the OC so I keep hitting the GO button, which now that I'm here takes me to the Minn/Wisc forum. When I was in the OC hitting the GO button would take me from the bike thread to the OC forum, at which time I would open the Fart thread, for example.

The good news the loss of FOV seems minimal, or at least acceptable. I was also struck by the difference in color.

I much preferred the richness of the Sony where color is concerned. So far, Sony is looking like a serious candidate for an upgrade.

I guess I should have also mentioned that right next to the bike thread quick link, you should put an OC quick link. That's what I did. Or, just have two tabs open all the time. I do this more than anything else. It's even faster for going back and forth.

Yeah, that was quite the difference in color, I was surprised.

I will say back before he about killed himself it seemed as though DJ's GoPro action turned out pretty good. I have to wonder how the Sony would have looked.

    All About Bikes, Vol. 8

All the minion talk got me curious about how much tire I could stuff into my frame. My current time is marked as a 2.1" but it seems thin. But I think if can easily go much larger. Perhaps a set of minions may arrive!

I believe these are the first ones I've posted. I think since I started making videos I forgot about stills. Funny thing is I still bring a camera with me and take pics.

With injuries, moving, weather, etc it's been awhile since I've created content. I'm hoping to make that change before too much longer.

I just wanted to apologize to Hawg for my last comment at the end of the last bike thread. I was a bit on edge from my pain pills wearing off. Plus I was sick of the conversation.

Trying to remember why I didn't like the Sony a month ago when I was comparing. I'm thinking it was maybe some ease of use issues. I'll go with a Drift again.

My weekly bike stats are 0.14 miles outside, 6.7mi on the trainer. But, that's not too shabby considering I will have only been in rochester for 24 hours this week. I have to travel to New Orleans tomorrow. I'm going to do some running and maybe think about a bike rental. That said, I'm going to be surprised if there is anyplace to ride a bike there. I think it is an alligator infested swamp.
