    Airshow photography...

I'm sitting here at work mindlessly waiting for an algorithm to compile data from countless images and needed a diversion. So... I put together a brief set of pictures from the airshow a couple of weeks ago at MCAS Miramar in San Diego for ya'lls viewing enjoyment.

Cheers and thanks to the Marines for hosting this year after year! Never disappoints.

    Cool! Way to go Timmy.
I've been to that air show numerous times and it always delivers.

It seems like the air show is always on one of the hottest weekends of the year.

That held true even when the Navy had Miramar.

We used to mtb to the top of Mission Trails and watch that show. They fly right over on several of their routines. If you time your ride just right to be at that location at 3 pm that's when the Angels fly.

I just got back from Fleet Enema Week in San Francisco. Took lots of pics, but mine we mostly of the horrors who we strong their stiff.

That's not what I meant to type (damn Swype), but it was too funny to delete.

Maybe someday, if you're lucky, I will post pics of the horrors.

Wow!!!!! Those are incredible. That F18 breaking the sound barrier it my "holy grail" shot. I always miss it, but even if I could catch that it wouldn't turn out like that. Those are some amazing shots!

That is perhaps my favorite plane. I was fortunate enough to be able to ride in one last spring. Once we were airborne we could get up and go almost everywhere in the plane. The only places we were not allowed were the ball turret and the tail gunner. It is cramped back there. I have a lot of respect for those guys. Truly the greatest generation.

Love air shows. We attend the one here in Toronto mostly every year. We have a great location for viewing and we've never been disappointed. Thanks for sharing your pics

I used to watch from what is now the new National Cemetery. There were 10 miles of single track on that small mesa. Some pretty nice ones.

Now, I understand that people are dying to get in there.

The classic planes are by far my favorites. I saw the F 18 from there routinely, and often, when they took off, right when they got over that piece of land, where the cemetery now is, they would pull o the stick and cut in their afterburners. This was at under 1000' elevation, right over our heads. When they did it at night, the jet blast was truly blinding, and the sound.......it's one of a kind.
Once, I saw a B2 bomber doing touch & go's from over there, too. That was pretty impressive. I think it was a B2...it was the one that looks like an airliner-sized fighter jet.

That said, the pic of the 3 P51's flying in formation.....wow.

Those are the Bremont Horsemen. They are pretty incredible. I saw them do a routine a few years ago with a P-38 flanked by two P-51s. It was unbelievably cool.

I haven't been attending any "spectacular" shows - but there's a local show where us mere mortals have the possibility to get up close and personal with much that goes on:

Here's one of my favorite performers in the intimate show context, in his replica of a 1930s sailplane (never mind his choice of music...):

Thanks so much for that video, Timmy........and for the airshow pics thread, too. I take that airshow for granted, I've lived here for almost 60 years now.

It's definitely one of the best air shows in the world.
