    25 Years Down the Gurgler

15/09/19 my marriage (of 17 years) went uff:

Now she won't give me my money!!

Law in my land stipulates 50/50 split...

I'm playing the long game, as her first offer was less than 30%

Judge's gavel will have me doing a jig.

NB, I'm 6 standard drinks into an all nighter (afternoon'er at least).

Rode my first chairlift assisted trails this morning.

    Dang!! It was fun!!

Right, back to drowning my sorrows.

I always wondered why, if both are automatically entitled to 1/2 of everything accumulated in such relationships, having ďearned itĒ, the relationship commitment didnít last.
With such equitable sharing of the load donchaknow .....

    Best advice.
Stay off the internet with it until the gavel drops......

I sense a double standard, but maybe I'm unawares. Seems the guy typically gets it in the azz in these situations.

Went through something similar...well, not too similar. Glad I didn't get half as we had no assets other than a paid off car in my name. She kept it. I paid for the divorce proceedings and child support, but she got to keep her $100,000 student loans. :P

When the driver is at fault, it is important that he pays some cost for his failure to drive safely. The justice system seems to think that bikers lives and health are a minor concern and cyclists deserve what they get so real charges are rare.

So, it is your DUTY to sue so that there will be some negative consequences for hitting a cyclist.

This is why I don't ride the roads much anymore. The dirt? Well, that's its own reward.

Assuming you were hurt or something was damaged, you should sue because you shouldn't have to pay the costs of their mistake and because you've been wronged. It may fill you with a sense of misplace pride but all you're doing is hurting yourself. There is such a thing as a valid case for a lawsuit, you know.

Saying you shouldn't sue is like saying you shouldn't respond to posts.

Because earning money and maintaining relationships are two completely different things? I don't even see how you could be confused about this. I could be a terrible husband but still earn all the money in the household.

You are confusing suing for personal gain with suing for damages. Not all lawsuits are frivolous as you seem to suggest. Did you pay out of pocket for medical expenses and bike damage for someone else's negligence?

i had/have health insurance, so there were no medical bills for me to deal with. the bike damage was not enough for me to waste my time with trying to get someone else to pay for it. i get what you're saying and i'm well aware of the difference between frivolous and necessary. police were involved and tickets were issued and that seemed good enough for me. if i had been laid up in the hospital, i likely would have done something different about it...

Still, I say you shoulda sued. All of us cyclists have got to stand up for our right to be present on the roads, and a lawsuit can help in that big-time.

First marriage went tits up after 20 years, and I walked away with nothing even tho I was entitled to half. Our house was sold for the equivalent of around a million bucks, and I told my ex to go ahead a sell, but use any profit to help edumacate our daughter.
I started from scratch, which was tough, but I could work and earn. We were amicable about the whole thing, and neither wanted the negativity that goes with these things all too often. Thank god we both got back on our feet.
Last year when I went back for my daughter's wedding, I saw our old house was on the market for the equivalent of 2.5 million bucks... fukk! Shoulda, woulda, coulda!
    It's all Here. Now.
