    Winston-Salem visit

Hey. I'm going to be in WS for a professional seminar in mid September and was curious if anyone would recommend places locally to MTB. It's been over 20 years since I last rode anything around WS. Used to ride Salem Lake alot back then. Hobby Park? What else?

Hobby and Tanglewood are both much improved, also lots of trails in Greensboro, and a new trail in Kernersville (short but very nice). Check out biketriad.com, I think you will enjoy your visit!

Check out Tanglewood or make the drive down to Kerr. It is not that far and Dark Mountain is awesome, as are the other trails there.

As much as I'd like to go out to Wilksboro and ride, I don't think I'd have enough time. Seminar is over at 500PM, so I'm stuck with local trails.

Hobby Park & Tanglewood have had a ton of new work done to both trails recently are in great shape. You can also venture up to Moores Springs Trails next to Hanging Rock. The trails on the north side of Salem Lake are exactly the same as they have always been except for the addition of a shitload of jumps added to the gully west of the powerlines.

My daughter and her family live in Clemmons, so I've ridden both Tanglewood and Hobby when we've visited. Tanglewood is flowey-ride the big loop both ways and the shorter trails and it's about 10 miles or so. Hobby has more ups and downs, but isn't crazy tough. Both were in good shape when we were down in May.

I tried to rent a bike last time we were down-no luck, so I used my son-in-laws ancient 26" hardtail with my pedals. It worked fine at both places, although I missed my Epic. One of these trips I'd like to get out to Wilkesboro and see how the Kerr-Scott trails are.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I'll stick with Tanglewood, Hobby or Salem Lake. Are we permitted to ride the horse loop To Tanglewood?

Some of the horse trails at Tanglewood are shared with hikers & cyclists some are not. Most of them are clearly marked with the exception of the trail along the river. The main trail in the center of the park is one way for bikes and the opposite direction for trail runners.
