Where are the XC trails at Sugar?

I was there yesterday to try them out. Where are they?

Some DH guys in the parking lot thought there were some, but had no idea where. The map, while pretty, doesn't help much. I ground my way up the slope on a dirt road to find some short posts with a picture of a hiker and a biker, but no trail name or direction.

    What gives? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I've been far too busy to check this post, much less go riding.

Stackout, I don't see a visitor's center on the map. Would it be the lodge you're referring to?

I'm going to have to disagree about everything being well marked. Maybe the signs are like the map; Good for those who already know their way around.

    PMing Sugar Brad...

The trails belongs to the town, not the ski area - the Visitors Center/Town Hall/Police Station are on Beech Mountain Parkway at the very top of the mountain, across from the pizza place and mini golf - its about a mile before the ski area. For more info:

Note that the "West Bowl" trails have not had any work done and are unmarked, and are generally untraveled. Its a pretty incredible descent, but the top half is heavily eroded, and its really not at all clear how to find your way back to civilization at the bottom. There is no phone reception, and there are bears. For now, stick to the 6-7 mile Emerald Outback loop on the top and consider the West Bowl to be like Wilsons, not that any of us ever ride there.

    I can see clearly now.....

I'm talking about Sugar Mtn. the resort and you're talking about the town. The town trails look like what I'm after; something the wife can ride.

I'll give them a shot today. Thanks for the help.

I'm also unable to read. Sugar, Beech. The way I'm going I'll end up on Roan.

No - I'm talking about Beech Mountain, the town up the street past Banner Elk. Brad can give more insight, but there really is no XC at Sugar. There are also trails at Lees McRae, but access is sort of odd, they are not marked and very confusing. I'm over in Boone and am entertaining visions of heading out again today.
