    Unique Trail Greetings

It's rare that I get a simple "Hi" when meeting someone I know on the trail.

    If from behind:
    Tire buzzing
    Creative whistling
    Creative growling
    Random patting

    If from the front:
    Yell of recognition
    Big smile
    Nose picker/goofy face
    Delayed yell of recognition

At DuPont yesterday, I had some one I was not looking directly at smack the top of my helmet as they were coming down to Bridal Veil. The hit and velocity was a shock. I probably should have whipped around, but new riders were climbing in front and we didn't want them to make a wrong turn. My neck was jarred (which is now quite unpleasant) and I quickly gained a headache,

Please don't smack people in the head - from either direction - as a greeting!!!

Actually, my dog usually takes care of the greetins' for me. I wear full finger gloves anyway, not much good for picking, but great for wiping.

At least you're not getting the random patting from the front as well.

Nose picking while riding is ineffecient. Just cover one nostril with your finger and blow hard out of the other one. Change sides to complete the process.

BTW, you don't want to be behind me on a road ride.

You don't ever want to be behind me on any ride, given my penchant for Papas & Beer.

That's usually true. However, I found an 80 year old woman here in town that I can dust on the flats. She still beats me on the climbs.

Mikey - people I'm referring to probably know the proper nose clearing technique. When the "hidden finger" greeting is assumed and I can only hope its nonproductive.

Good news - I can almost turn my head to the left now.
