Is there any riding around Murphy, NC?

My uncle has a cabin up in the area, and I'm thinking about road trippin over there to escape the Florida heat

I am familiar with all of the stuff in the PNF area, but not so much around Murphy. I've done some 4 wheeling around Tellico (which is now closed) but never searched for any riding. I think Murphy is fairly close to the Nantahala Outdoor Center and Tsali, and I've ridden the latter of those two. But is there anything else worth riding? I guess it's worth mentioning that I ride pretty much everything but prefer to ride downhill/freeride/DJ.

    Tanasi

As the standingindian suggested, make the easy drive over to the Tanasi trail system. Great stuff -- not super technical, but you can always ride it faster to make it harder. It is not very crowded even in the middle of summer on a Saturday afternoon. Generally these trails "flow" very well, which is good if you're into XC, not so great if you're into technical, big drops and downhill. Make sure to ride Thunderock Express down the mountain. You will be smiling from ear to ear (and probably all the way around your head).

I have heard of Tanasi before. Seems like it might be pretty cool. Thanks for the suggestions so far. It looks like Asheville and PNF aren't too far away from Murphy anyway. Might just have to hit up my favorite Pisgah trails while I'm there as well.

I'll second the trails at Jackrabbit Mountain. It should be less than 30 minutes from Murphy.

Hang'n Dog trails about 5 miles north of Murphy. Not ridden much tho.
