    Saturday Croft Ride

Meet at the Palmetto Trail Trailhead in Spartanburg Saturday at 10 if you want to ride some trails that don't have any snow on them.

The trail head is located at the corner of Carolina Country Club Rd. and Cedar Springs Dr. in Spartanburg. Here's a map:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Sp...&geocode=BLOCK

Park in the grassy lot on the left by the church. Don't get naked in the parking lot.

Pace will be out of shape fat guy in Winter speed (at least for me). So pretty much everyone can keep up.

Possible consumption of Mexican food and beer to follow.

    Hey Mike,
I just rode Croft at lunch today.
The trails are in good shape EXCEPT the whole first part of the Palmetto Trail all the way to the pavement. Its utter crap. Avoid that.

Yeah, that part of the trail will be a mess until about August at the rate we are going. As far as distance, I would say about 3 hours or so.

Actually, I have been known to average as much as 6 mph on a good day. I would say about 75 minutes driving time.

How many miles of trails are at croft? The website says there is only 12 miles but I saw a post earlier that said 30 miles. What type of terrain?

12 miles is Southside Trail which is part of Croft there 30+ miles of assorted trails total 13 of that is the Palmetto Trail Croft Passage. there is a bunch of unsigned 'bootleg trails on the north end that criss-crosses the PT ...good riding.

Holy cow - 13 people showed up to ride Croft today, from all over the place - Spartanburg, Greenville, Asheville, and even Charlotte. A large time was had by all. I bet you guys didn't think there was that much climbing in Spartanburg, did you?

How muddy is it down there? I'm going to be there on March 6th and I want to equip my bike with the appropriate tires!

Its 70% good, 20% slick, and 10% buttmud bogs.
That was the conditions at Southside today anyway.
The freeze thaw is causing some areas to be slick, but its fun to ride.
Trail will look totally normal, then you feel both tires drifting.
