    Riding safe during hunting season?

I'm planning a trip over thanksgiving to the Asheville area and also Charlotte. I'm hoping to ride parts of Bent Creek, Dupont and Lake Norman SP when I'm down in Charlotte. Just wondered where/when rifle hunting is permitted. Up here (Maine) we are in the middle of deer hunting season and avoid areas where rifle hunting is allowed until Sundays. No hunting on Sundays in Maine. Also - any recommendations for bike rentals around Asheville? I'm a long time rider looking for a decent full suspension bike.

    Riding safe during hunting season?

We are also in the midst of gun season, which is allowed everyday in bent creek and Pisgah proper, EXCEPT Sunday. DuPont is managed differently. A lottery I think? I don't ride there much, so I can't say. Never been to lake Norman, but most state parks do not allow hunting. The hub in Pisgah forest has good rentals.

There is no hunting allowed at Lake Norman that I know of. At least not on the mountain bike trails. I have ridden Bent Creek, Dupont and Pisgah. Never had any issues with hunters but I know there are lots of them there. Maybe I have just gotten lucky. I have never taken any particular precautions and just ride like I normally would.

    Riding safe during hunting season?

I too ride during hunting season, but I do take precautions, and I would suggest that others do the same. Bright colors on me, bright colors and bells on the dogs. Saturdays can be particularly sketchy in Pisgah. Ride, but ride smart. Be careful and be safe.

Bent Creek sees some hunting but Im not sure why. Bikes outnumber hunters at least 20:1. Pisgah you'll see less deer hunting but lots of folks running dogs during bear season. The only precaution I take is just being a little extra aware. I dont ride with headphones and if I see hunters I talk to them and see where they're running and make myself seen. Couldnt hurt to wear an orange jersey or gloves or something if you got 'em.

Lake Norman is a State Park so no hunting is allowed.

Western NC riffle season for deer starts Nov 24th
Right now on this side of the state it is just archery according to NC Wildlife.

You will probably see more hunters than normal on Thanksgiving weekend. Wear orange or other bright colors and ride. Avoid dusk and dawn or at least have lights.

DuPont is a lottery of some sort with plenty of gun safety zones.
    Bracken does not allow hunting.

Pisgah and Bent Creek is pretty much free game.
Green River Game Lands, I wouldn't ride out there with neon colors and flashing lights on me during rifle season.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

No hunting is allowed in any NC State Parks, in addition to Lake Norman, Lake James State Park has mtb trails. There are around 15 miles of newly built trails there. Also, just southwest of Asheville, there is a small trail system located on the campus of Western Carolina University, which is located in a no hunting zone.

I rented a santa cruz from the Hub not too long ago and was surprised at how many rentals were available. Try them or Sycamore cycles right at the entrance to Pisgah.

Both had lots of nice bikes. Also check out Kolo Bike park in Asheville, they have a lot of nice rentals as well.
