    Recommended rides for Pisgah

    Hi all,

Mid August I'm flying into Greensboro for a work trip. I'm taking 2-3 days to ride around Pisgah. I'll have a rental car and I'll probably be renting a bike.

What trails would y'all recommend I ride? I'm more descent oriented, but I'm not afraid to pedal/push for a good descent. I prefer techy, feature oriented, playful trails. The more challenging the better.

    Thanks in advance.

First, see third sticky on forum.
    otherwise...
For that short of a trip, stay in Brevard. Rent a bike at the Hub or Sycamore; both are great shops. Ask for ride advice there and go with it, you'll be given good advice. Ask about rides (or research on sticky, above) that feature Black Mountain, Pilot Rock, or Daniel Ridge trails (to start with).

Pilot rock descent is awesome and highly technical. Climb up is not bad other than two Hikeabike sections. Check out my post from a few weeks ago for directions.

Laurel Mtn > Pilot is a good one.
Little bit of a drive though from any bike rentals.

Black Mtn is also another good choice and close to the Hub.

Also close to the Hub and a good choice is Daniel Ridge or you could do Farlow if you want the gnar.
Just stick it in granny and start grinding.

It's more of throwing together trails to make bigger loops
You can ask the Hub guys or the guys at sycamore about these

The Big M is a standard ride
Ranger maintenance parking, 477, Clawhammer, maxwell, Black, up thrift at junction, Up grassy at junction, upper or lower sycamore back to 276 and car

Horse stable parking lets you do clawhammer, left on Black, at club gap you can do Avery creek or club gap tr or Buckwheat to Bennet gap

Fish hatchery lets you string together 475B, a section of Cove Creek to 225, the 225 connector up to the top of Daniel, Drop in Daniel and go right or left, your choice. Exit Daniel and do longbranch or Butter gap back to fish hatchery

Squirrel gap is a must do and Laurel mtn is nice

    Daniel is nice.
Do you know the way to drop in at the top on the 225 connector?

Park at the Hatchery. Do Cove Creek first. Then ride up to Daniel from there.

It's a long way to the top
. . . if you wanna rock and roll (ac/dc)

Two ways to drop in at the top of Daniel and then you have a choice of going right on the Rocky side where Farlow comes in, or you can go left on Daniel and come out by the big waterfall

    1) Ride up cove creek and split off left after the large double log bridge then left on 225 to the 225 connector.

    2) Ride up 475B, turn left on 225, go all the way to the end (gate), take the 225 connector

The 225 connector is a grassy road with single track
You go up about 1.7 miles
When the trail seems to end with brush blocking the trail, look left
drop into the short connector trail
The very top point of Daniel is only a stones throw down this short connector trail

Riding up cove creek is highly recommended. It's a great climb, but not very steep

Here's a map of Cove creek and Daniel area

I highlighted the route I described in the post above
Also highlighted 3 of the connectors that you may not be aware of

After you finish Daniel you can go up and do Long Branch, Butter Gap or go back to the hatchery via Davidson river trail

I attached a Google Earth KMZ file to this post of all the bike trails in the Fish hatchery area.

Also see the 475C route from the Fish hatchery to downtown Brevard
It's a bunch of climbing from Brevard to the Fish hatchery through Bracken Mountain.

It's easier the other way from the Fish hatchery to Brevard
