Is it too late to start training??

Sorry, SJanes, I stole your line. You can have it back if you carry my gear to the top of Pilot Mtn rd for the new mandatory.

This works out great, because I'm the least fit I've ever been for the race.

No, no 5 gallon buckets.... this year. This is a good time to remind everyone though: Please review the mandatory gear list. If you're missing an item you will not be allowed to race.

Also, please remember that each team is allowed only one vehicle at the start/finish.

sounds like fun...but what tires should I use.

btw, i think the pic of the required gear is the best idea I've seen in a long time...

CP @ Rice Pinnacle or Ivestor or I'm not impressed. Maybe Sumney Cove? I'm glad that there's not a bike lock on the req gear list.

You know, 276 and 64 could still be off-limits, but with the new greenway, Poppies could be a legitimate checkpoint ...

Since Moto brought up gear-check I think it's a good idea to remind everyone that you must be in line for sign-in /gear-check BEFORE 7:30 AM. Anyone getting in line after that will have a 2 hour penalty before the race even starts.

We will open sign-in on Friday night but you still have to go through gear-check on Saturday morning. Please, show up with all your gear and SHOW UP EARLY. No one likes too see a long line. Not me, not you, not the Forest Service.

Sign-In and Gear-Check opens as soon as the Pisgah Productions tent is up Friday night until midnight and at 6:00AM-7:30AM Saturday.

I have fantasies about not wearing a camelbak for this thing. Then I checked the list again, laughed and remembered that this is supposed to hurt in more ways than one... lol dammit.

Ian, I did the gear check last year and you'd be shocked how small you can get the mandatory gear. Some "first aid kits" were laughable and of course you are splitting the gear between two people. I don't think sans-pack is too crazy if you trying to do well... and I know you are. Large ziplock in one pocket, ultra compact jacket in another, and food everywhere it fits. This method certainly requires iodine tabs and several refills of bottles.

I know you're just kidding, Plume but it reminded me of a PMBAR moment a few years back. And, although 99.9% of every post on any forum I've ever made is pure drivel, I would like to make one serious comment regarding hydration.

Back in like 2008(?), my partner (MCD) and I were about an hour away from the finish when we ran out of water. We thought we could save time and finish more quickly by skipping the last watering opportunity and riding in with an empty hydration bladder. Our thinking was that (a) we've ridden an hour without water before, so we can do it now (b) we'd save time and finish sooner. Whatta mistake that was!! By the time we got to the simple little climb to push us towards the last downhill back to the finish, I was so dehydrated that I could only take a few steps before stopping to rest. My heart rate was through the roof (because my blood was so thick). Teams we had passed much earlier were passing us back... And this was on a "climb" that everyone here can pedal up. It was scary as hell to be that dehydrated and wouldn't wish it on anybody!

Now back to my drivel du jour............

    Thomas,

PMBAR is an adventure race. A single sport adventure race. If that means nothing to you then please, move along.

He cross-posted to the PMBAR Training Ride thread -- woulda' been more convincing as a troll if he hadn't overplayed his hand.
