    Pisgah lockdown

So I was at Pisgah today and this was happening:

Part of Pisgah National Forest evacuated as deputies search for armed suspect | WLOS

I got there right at noon and was parked in the lot near the visitor's center when 2 highway patrol cars pulled in and parked just across from me. I thought that maybe I was going to be arrested for slow riding or something, but then a guy walked up and started talking to them. He said that he was on the gravel road right at Bennett Gap when a car came flying up the road and and then stopped and a guy jumped out and stuck a gun in his chest and took his bike. The guy threw the bike into the back of an SUV and took off. I talked to the guy briefly. He seemed amazingly calm for someone who had just had a gun stuck in his chest.

My riding partner and I ended up going over to the Hatchery to ride and by the time we got back to the Hub, they were blocking all cars from going into Pisgah. I'm sure we will hear more on the news later.

Not surprised at all, there are some really sketchy-looking people living in some of those tents.

Thanks for the update. We are, or possibly were, planning on going there tomorrow.

I haven't yet seen on the news what the guy was wanted for before he stole the bike.

And karma being what it it, the bike was an XL and the victim described the perp as a short guy, so he may have a hard time making an escape on it.

It's this guy: Authorities release name of armed, dangerous suspect in Brevard-area manhunt | WLOS

What I can't figure if he was the same guy arrested in June for an armed robbery in Weaverville. That one was supposedly Stroupe II, this one Stroupe III. The mugshots look identical.

I assume the bike may have been snatched as a getaway bike. He's on the run, so probably going to ditch the SUV and head out on bike.

Interview with the guy who was held up:

Naturally, they were back at the Hub drinking beer after at all ended. I suspect they needed it more than most!

Glad they're ok, and I hope this goon is caught post haste.

Yup. He ditched the SUV and is now on the bike:

Ha, I swear I think I turned off at the stables to climb Clawhammer right before the two cars came by - I heard them and the siren racing up 477.

Part of this makes no sense. If he escaped on a stolen bike which was way too big for him on Avery Creek Rd., there are not a lot of options for escaping on bike. I know he did not come out by the stables, as there were cops blocking that rd., unless he got there before they did. But if that was the case, he would have had to ride down to 276. I just don't see this guy riding up Avery Creek trail on a stolen bike with no food or water and lasting very long. My guess is that his ditched the bike pretty fast and ran off into the woods. With every copy in Western NC on his tail, I don't see how he can last too long out there. I just hope this ends without anyone getting shot.

Worst part of it is that after climbing 477, Mr. Fisher ended up at the top of Bennett, without a bike!

We rode N Mills today. 5 min after getting there around 9 AM, police blocked off 1206. All of Trace, Spencer, etc., was open. Every person we encountered on the trails, we subconsciously looked first at their neck looking for a tattoo.

The guy was spotted in the Mills River area today according to this:

2 confirmed sightings of armed suspect as Brevard-area manhunt continues | WLOS

This guy may be training for the P36. He has been out there for 2 days with no food.

i don't know about food and water. Evacuated campers had to leave provisions behind or couldn't get back into to retrieve them. Also read somewhere that the non-hostage at Wolf Ford Road gave him a granola bar.

Good news, but I had not heard about the possible kidnapping. This does not sound good for Mr. Bryson.
