Just received word today from Southeast Regional Coordinator USA Cycling that the Paris Mountain Downhill Race will be the South Carolina State Gravity Championships...and Yes, it will be a 2012 qualifier.

Anything after last weekend will be a qualifier for 2012 Nationals.

I guess I better volunteer rather than racing, then. I'm too chicken for this downhill stuff.

Heads Up - Rule Change! i wish i were kidding.

    HEADS UP!!!

As of 5 minutes ago Duke @ USA Cycling informed us: That all racers must wear a full-face helmet. I know we've been telling telling everyone that a full-face wasn't required... because we never required that in the past races. but those races were not USAC sanctioned events.

Sorry i know this is a major inconvenience to everyone to change up the rules 3 days before the race... if you need to refund let us know contact Jarret [email protected] or myself...

To all riders that may have an extra Full-Face Helmet that someone can barrow that would be very cool...

as per USAC Rules Page 54 1N1. Helmets. At all times when participating in an event held under a USA Cycling event permit, including club rides, any rider on a bicycle or motorcycle shall wear a protective, securely fastened helmet that satisfies the standards specified in USA Cycling Policies. (Policy I, Sections 1 and 2 – see appendices.) [disqualification and a $20 fine for failure to wear or for removing such a helmet during a race. The fine is also applicable if the rider is not racing, but is participating in the event as described below]. "Participating in an event" means riding a bicycle in the vicinity of a race at any time between the beginning of registration and the last awarding of prizes, but does not apply to riding rollers or stationary trainers in order to warm up.
1N2. For downhill and 4X events, a full-face helmet must be worn.

there you have it. again sorry for the inconvenience

    Update to full face helmet

since this is our first race with usac they are willing to let you guys ride without a full face helmet this year. If you have a full face wear it, if not wear your regular riding helmet.

Thanks to all of you for your support and we look forward to a fun weekend.

5 or 6 full- face helmets left in stock @ The Hub. If you need one, mention it is for the race and get 15% off. (TLD and 661). Have fun down there.

    Thanks Sam,

Well they (USAC) were going to let us slide without requiring the full-face helmets , and now reverse that decision...

So Now as of 8:00PM on Thursday night changed it again

FULL-FACE HELMETS ARE REQUIRED TO RACE!

    Sorry again for any inconveniences...

Olies has some Cheap crap full faced helmets for a few bucks. They look heavey but I think they would work for you if you really want to race a downhill once in your life.

I had a great time. I messed up pretty bad on the uphill
And my feet came off a few times but for only my second ever race I will take 4 th. The shuttle situation was ridiculous though I only got 2 or 3 runs in before my race.

Wonder, how old Luca is with the fastest time of the day? He's in high school by now, right?

Shuttle and lack of prizes have been the biggest complaints so far, the first one we can fix...definitely 2 shuttles would've been ideal. It was tough getting sponsors this year.

What's the situation for next year? I heard something about building a new course from some of the locals and something about things being indefinite at the race. I would love to race again next year!

Bummer. Looks like I should have hung out for awards and collected some schwag.

Thanks to Brad and everyone else involved for putting on a fun race. Another shuttle vehicle would have been good but I still got in some good practice. More than anything I would like to see a return to 2 race runs. A qualifying run and a race run or 2 race runs taking your best time.

Thanks to Upstate SORBA for making it happen.

Next year is a go from the park. Course TBD. There is a new trail going in that as of right now will replace the DH trail. will see how it looks before we determine where we can put the course. Old trail, new trail, or backside of the mtn. Right kanuga to brissy ridge down to buckhorn campground.

The road is always open to be climbed if you need more practice runs. Last time I checked, even downhill bikes have pedals.
