    Night Rides? (n00bs around WNC?)

So any n00bs (or anyone willing to ride slow) for some n00b night riding around Asheville?

I am hoping to get some night riding in this fall and am looking for anyone that makes regular trips at night that I might tag along...

    ALSO

I have some cheap lights that I bought several years ago that I WAS hoping to finally use:

    Princeton Tec Yukon (Bike)
    Princeton Tec Corona (Bike)

But after some reading I may need to upgrade those right off the bat.

Anyone have a decent used light for cheap (and I mean CHEAP)?

    Thanks

Before you upgrade, go on some "deep dusk" rides with the lights you have. Hang with a group and see what the locals are using - they will light the way. Due to my eyes, I'm only in to the night stuff on service roads and for getting back to the house. A simple flashlight has saved me, but there's some really nice options for longer rides.
Now you're cast of steel and cast aside. Broken dreams maybe, but you haven't died

Myself and Moto ride at BC at least a couple times a week during the fall and winter. If you are interested in joining us, pm me.

You might check out the magicshine... pretty hard to beat for the money.

I've got a very similar light......the only diff is the batery pack. It is a real deal for the money, just bright enough to be "safe" and if you buy two you'll be set. Night riding season is just upon us and it's time to dust off the lights!

My magicshine is brighter than the L&M HID it replaced. It is also every bit as bright as the high end led's other people have. It is an amazing light

The one thing that was a problem with mine is that I had to wait over a month to get it due to it being "back-ordered" all the way from Korea...........

    Smoke,

When you ordered yours, did geomangear list the item as 'back-ordered'? Because right now they don't say wither or not they are in stock....???

I ordered it from someone else, but the price was the same.............very risky dealing direct from Hong Kong. Took forever.

Go with geomangear.com. He is really easy to work with and I suggest going ahead and getting the race kit.

I got the race Magicshine race kit and love it. It includes a helmet mount and an extra battery. Solid construction and very bright. The only problem I have is switching between modes. Sometimes I have to push it multiple times to get it to switch modes. Great light for the money.

I think I need to buy one of these MagicShine... But I think I need to gift it to my brother and my budget will not allow the purchase of 2 at the moment.

    Smoke,

I hope you guys are not BSin' me because I went to order a light for my brother but at the check out I did a last minute change (hope I get a divorce over this) and added one for myself too.

So On the way are (2) "Magicshine GMG Special 900 PLUS Lumen Lightset and Helmet Mount".

So both fat guys (Fat and Fatter) will have these MS 900s, will I want a flood with this light?

I just hope I get to ride in the winter enough to justify my divorce.

No BSin' here my nOObish bro..........I'll charge em up for you so it's ready. Just tell wifey that the cost of a good light set-up is WAY cheaper than a trip to the ER. Can I hear an AMEN on that one?

    Amen BUT:

My wife won't fall for that one... she will respond with "Well maybe you should not be riding at night then!".

    Can't wait!

GeoMan told me they were getting a new shipment in on Monday ( I am hoping he was talking about the 20th) and I am hoping he does and that my order goes out on time and gets to me by Thursday. That means at very least a Saturday Night Ride... I might even take out my cheap lights this weekend just so that I have something to compare too.

I just ordered a new mininewt 250 cordless. The battery is built in to the back of the light. I hope it doesn't suck. I usually night ride a bit in late Oct and November, but then start wimping out when it gets cold. Maybe I'll man up and ride more outside this winter. Anything has to beat the stinking trainer.

    Smoke,

You were right! Those MagicShines ROCK! My brother and I finally got out to do a night ride last night. We had a blast! And the MagicShine has a nice balance of throw vs flood. I used it on low most of the ride and was more than happy with what I could see. I switched to high for Sleepy Gap and Explorer Loop but the rest of the night it was on low.

For me a single MagicShine and a back up light seems will be enough.

I hope to catch you guys (I mean let you pass me) on the trail soon!

Thanks for all the help so far!
