New Bike Park open in Spartanburg

There is a new bike park open in Spartanburg with all the dirt jump goodness you can ask for. It is next to the rail trail just off of South Pine Street.

    It opened officially last week.

    Have you been?

I've known about it for a while. I hope to get over there soon. I assume it's best to take a hardtail. I hope Spartanburg County gets that maintenance will be required. I mentioned this to the person I know when they were first talking about it. Otherwise, it'll be another Gateway or Town Creek, and after a year or two, it'll start falling apart and it'll suck.

I have been by there, but I donít jump and have never really figured out how to ride a pump track, so I just watch the 10 year old kids having fun.

If you get another chance then give the pump track another try, it'll help your trail riding believe it or not.
Push down as you come down on the back-side of all of those rollers and you gain a little speed. After you know what to look for you can do it on the trail...free speed.

... what he said, but yes it's easier to learn to pump on a rigid bike or at least a hardtail with a really stiff fork. you also want a bike that gives you lots of room to move. i ended up with a 26" dirt jumper that rarely sees air but it's great for pump track session. i was semi-regularly going to a couple indoor bike parks with some friends for a while when I lived in NE PA, made sense then.

Thanks, but I really could not care less about riding pump tracks. The bike park is a great thing to have in town though. Anything that gets people outside and doing something is fine by me. There are some short trails just about a mile away at Duncan Park and the Croft trails are just about 5 miles down the road. For the casual rider, the track is on a 2 mile rail trail and starting sometime next year, they are supposed to be adding a 3 mile paved trail next to Country Club Rd., which will make a total of about 5 miles that people can do without having to be on a road with traffic.
