Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! National Public Lands Day Service Project with Pisgah Area SORBA & REI in Pisgah

    Saturday September 27, 2014 9AM to 1PM

At this time REI online registration is closed, please contact Ching at [email protected] with your name and Phone to Register.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Pisgah Area SORBA and REI by volunteering in N. Mills River Recreational Area. The service project will work on completing Lower Trace Ridge Trail. Service project work difficulty is moderate, expect a maximum 1.5 mile round trip hike with tools. Trail work projects will be roots trimming and finishing tread building. Please bring loppers if you have any available. Other tools will be provided by PAS. All volunteers will receive an REI volunteer t-shirt, while sizes and supplies last. Minimum volunteer age is 18 years old. Please bring water, snacks, work gloves, sun block, bug spray, tools if you have, and wear closed-toe shoes. A light trailside breakfast and grilled lunch will be provided. Meeting location is at Wash Creek Horse Camp in N. Mills River Recreational Area.

Event Location: Wash Creek Horse Camp off FS 5000 in North Mills River in Pisgah National Forest
Directions to meeting location: From exit 40 on I-26 travel west on Hwy 280 (passing the Asheville Airport and going towards Brevard). Go six miles to light and turn right on North Mills River Road. Go six miles and just before entering the North Mills River Campground, turn right on Forest Service (gravel) Road #5000. Proceed two miles to site on right. Look for REI sign.

All volunteers are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with USFS guidelines.
Pisgah Area SORBA has hard-hats, glasses and gloves for your use, though we suggest you bring your own. You can borrow them for the day or purchase on-site for future use. Due to safety regulations, bicycle helmets are not acceptable.
Long pants and non-slip footwear are also required. We suggest you also plan on bringing a day pack with snacks, water and weather gear (rain shell, etc.) Crew Leaders reserve the right to assess each volunteer’s PPE to ensure compliance with land manager agreements.
