Now you're cast of steel and cast aside. Broken dreams maybe, but you haven't died

    Help Bill Cherry

Quick synopsis. Bill Cherry is a local bike shop owner and friend. He was paralyzed in a motorcycle wreck and we want Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to consider him for their upcoming season. Please take a moment to sent an email to castingnorthcarolina(at)gmail.com suggesting that they help Bill and his family.

Here's the email I wrote and sent for those of you who want to send an email to castingnorthcarolina(at)gmail.com but either don't know Bill well or don't have the time to write your own message. Feel free to use mine. Let's flood their inbox with emails about Bill and hopefully they will come and help him in this time of need. Thanks!

    Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,

Bill Cherry is the owner of Belmont Bicycles in Belmont, North Carolina. Bill is a great advocate for bicycling in the local community and a good guy in general. Always positive, always upbeat, he’s the kind of person you want to be around and be like. On April 27th 2009 while enjoying his day off work Bill was involved in a motorcycle wreck on Hickory Grove Road just North of Belmont. Bill was stopped behind a truck that was waiting to turn left when he was rear-ended by a Jeep whose driver failed to stop. Bill was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life threatening critical injuries.

On July 22nd 2009 after twelve weeks and two days in the hospital Bill finally came home! This is great news however now a new challenging journey begins for Bill, one his home is not really configured for. Bill is now paralyzed from the waist down and one of his arms was badly maimed in the wreck so he’s dealing with a lot of nerve damage and rehabilitation. The driver who struck Bill was uninsured. Bill and his wife Julie who have three children have a lot of medical bills to deal with and it’s uncertain that they’ll ever receive compensation from the accident. With all the financial and physical challenges facing them their less-than-ideal house is the last thing they should have to worry about. Two story home, master bedroom upstairs, bathrooms that are not handicap accessible, and so many more challenges that you do not think about until you are in a wheelchair trying to do all the things that you used to take for granted.

The community has really stepped up to help Bill. Volunteers keep his bicycle shop open while he’s recovering, friends have installed a garage door opener and built a ramp into his house, people give donations both monetary and by supporting the bike shop with their purchases. In the end though there is only so much that people can do to help the Cherry’s and it takes something special like your TV series to really give Bill what he needs for a huge head-start on his recovery. Please consider Bill and his family for your show, they are truly deserving and in need.
