Thank you very much for the re route work on the Hickory Mountain trail
we were wondering for months how it would turn out and everyone
was amazed at how good this project turned out.The jump lines were
perfectly placed and the rock features are beautiful.
Was this a Sorba project?or sub contracted ? hats off to the workers
and or the planners who put this together Amazing work Thank you..

Thanks for the kind words--I'll pass them along to the Trails Committee of Friends of DuPont Forest (FODF). In the past 3 years, FODF has pumped ~$40K per year into the trail system at DSRF, and Hickory Mountain Loop was among their recent funding efforts. Initial corridor clearing was done during last September's National Public Lands Day work day co-sponsored by REI and Pisgah Area SORBA; 68 volunteers gave their time to this project. Trail construction was done by Elevated Trail Design. DSRF personnel did the closure work on the old corridor. A couple Pisgah Area SORBA volunteers helped Forest staff generate the flag line. So, like many successful ventures, Hickory Mountain Loop was a team effort.

    Hello Zufish,

Thanks so much for the complements. My company, Elevated Trail Design, LLC did the re-route. Myself and my business partner, Peter Mills, did the machine work and on-site design tweaks. Our good friend and employee, Andrew Sams, was our man on the ground for the project.

Like TZ said, please consider passing your thoughts to the friends of Dupont and also Jason Guidry, the forest supervisor. They hear a lot of complaining and they need to know the users are appreciating the work.

Big thanks to volunteers for the corridor and design work, and DSRF for the closure work. This enabled us to spend more time on the trail experience we wanted to create.

I try not to get too caught up in the dribble on here these days, but I had to post up and offer my sincere thanks for your post!

And what an experience it is. We rode this last night. Great work!
