    Headed to Squamish ...

I'm locked and loaded for the last week in Aug, and wanted to check around to see if anyone knew of any rideable slabby fixtures in the NC area.

I've read that Woodruff has some bulky rock features and slabs, namely the Optimus Crux slab. I've only seen a couple vids/pics of Woodruff but didn't see any slabs. Although the satellite view of the area wasn't encouraging, maybe I'll just check it out as I never ridden in that area (Yancey, Schoolhouse, Wilson, etc.).

Also, I've taken the typical lines (in both directions) around Big Rock and Cedar Rock but maybe there's other (alternate) rideable lines in this area that includes one or two steep slab descents?

Same goes for Pisgah, I haven't seen any steep descending slabs I can ride where death wasn't imminent.

The only real section of Woodruff that sounds like what you are looking for got completely washed out in the last storm. I doubt that it has been fixed yet. That section used to be sketchy in the wet and even in the dry was challenging but there's no telling what will happen to it now.

By steep slab descent, do you mean one continuous rock face without any features (e.g. drops)?

    Thanks, guys.

Tim, one continuous rock face would be ideal.

Ok. I think you've touched on everything local. I can't think of anything within 2 hours of here.

Nice, ill be heading there the week after labor day. Slabs are more mental than anything...grip is good unless its dusty, run-outs just loft the front end a bit. Key is to be active on them...don't get just your weight back and let er rip...actually unload your bike into it then gradually load as you descend to keep your bike in contact with the face.

I got a couple spots in mind ill pm you on.

    Thanks!

I keep telling my gf that it's mostly mental but slabs freak her out, nonetheless.

Black Forest at Rocky Knob will provide some decent rock slabs and is close to being officially open. Unless you go with someone that knows the off map stuff Wilson Creek won't really have what you are looking for (mainly referring to the 181 side that gets ridden a lot). Nothing will really prepare you for BC.

    For those interested... - http://forums.mtbr.com/passion/squam...p-1087179.html.

Btw, besides a couple mentions in this thread, I've heard it ("nothing will prepare you for bc") countless other times. Well, everyone was right, I wasn't prepared for how freakin' beautiful BC was!

Other than that, no issues ...
