    Greenville SC, Mtn Bike Racers????

I'm moving to Gville in a few weeks and was wondering if there was a big scene for mtn bike racers there? I'm coming from Mobile, Al where suprisingly it's pretty popular. Are there any local teams, group rides? I've found quite a bit for roadies, but i'm looking for some dirt action. Let me know, looking foward to hitting Paris.

Decent mtb race scene in the upstate

I used to race the Bump and Grind, Cheeha challenge, and the Iron Legs back in the late nineties. If you are looking for some good mtbing, there is lots in the immediate area. Race wise the Stump Jump is held here in Spartanburg in about a month. Sport is 24 and Expert is 34mi. Decent race course. Good luck with your move to the upstate.

I live in Wilmington, NC, so my info. for you is limited, but my wife's aunt/uncle live near the towers on top of Paris - their property shares a border with the park. I was up there in August, '08 (I think it was) and rode Paris Mtn. St. Park - absolute blast. I rode part of it with a couple guys who were training for the "Paris Mountain Downhill Race".

The site dedicated to the race isn't up right now - too bad - it was a very nice site and tons of photos.

There is also the big bike race - it's huge there - Hincappie (sp?) resides down the street from Aunt/Uncle. We just set up our chairs at the end of the drive way and drink beer and watch the bikers - it's on a nasty turn so it's always exciting.

Anyhow, it's a great place to be for biking. You're an hour or so down 76 from DuPont and Pisgah. Doesn't get much better than that.....

Good luck with your move. Been to Mobile several times for work - my brother is also stationed with the Gulf Strike Team at the Coast Guard base there so I've gone to visit him a few times over in Theodore.

    April 4: Clemson DH (Clemson)
April 19: Race to the River XC (Columbia)
May 9: Stump Jump XC (Spartanburg)
June 6-7: SERC/Clemson TT on the 6th and XC on the 7th (Clemson)
October 17: Paris Mountain DH (Greenville)

There are tons of races within 1.5-3 hours of Greenville. Check out this site for mtb/cx/road events around the Southeast.

The Clemson Freeride course (DH and dual-slalom) at Issequeena is a blast, so definitely go hit that up.

Cyclocross is returning to the Upstate this winter, too, and fat-tire machines are welcome to join the fun! If you want to suffer on skinny tires, Greenville has an awesome road spring series that just ended in March (sorry) in addition to lots of other roadie races.
